New plugs in. Went out for a 30kms run got bike warm then had the hammer down on the highway. Only sputters on limiter and then when I come out into next gear so I’m assuming that it’s just a natural hesitation from getting limiter. Every other pull from any other Rpm is strong. Also ran seafoam to clean out any shit.

Interesting when I pulled plugs from rear jug they were only hand tight from factory. Not sure but everything nice and tight now!! I’m learning lots about my bike the last couple weeks hahah

For what it’s worth, the AIS only comes into play during idle and decelerating. Cruising, the O2 sensors are on line and they sure wouldn’t know how to decypher exhaust gases while fresh air was being injected upstream.

Makes sense for sure. I’m thinking it’s just a delay in the rev limit system when running up in those high rpm. And seems to do it worst If I let off throttle and get back on. If I just hold it wide open and shift it doesn’t bog or whatever we wanna call it. Maybe just the way it works

er, you should not be hittin rev limiter, your power band drops off before u hit that rev. IMHO,

I agree Brian and I don’t normally run to as high as red line. I had just run it up that high coming onto highway after I did some work to my bike, but, no normally I don’t run it that hard.

New plugs put in last night. Took for a spirited ride last night. This is plugs after bike cooled down from run

            Looks fine to me.

er send me the old plugs ill use em. i guess we all assume the O2 sensors(assuming you still have them in) work under ALL conditions.maybe they dont. you could try to change octane for a tank, to see if it helps??? a good feul system cleaner like exon techroline stuff might fix yup.

Hahah ok I’ll send em your way. I was checking them so may well replace em while the tanks off. All my o2 censors are in place. The bike only has one season on it as I purchased as a new left over last spring. I tried with my baffles in bike works the same just quiet and the plugs look the same with or without baffles. I have some seafoam in currently so I’m sure that’ll clean things out.

i was thinking last night maybe it’s running a bit leaner because of the temp outside. was only around 12 degrees Celsius outside. And if I can remember as far back as last year when it was brand new and didn’t want to start in those temps either. Even colder in the morning like today is 4 degrees haha

Hey Jordan the colder temps should be running richer and the ECU adjusts for that (more oxygen = more fuel). A longer ride with more kms would show more of a color on your plugs with different riding conditions.

EFI bikes use the O2 sensors only while cruising. Open the throttle up wide and it goes to a predetermined setting that is more rich (open loop). Idle is also a predetermined setting (open loop). O2 sensors are used when cruising at normal speeds (closed loop). Cruising around, the bike will adjust mixture to be 14.7:1 regardless of the temperature or elevation.

deerK, they go to a predetermined setting at WOT?? and only work in midranges, wow. i did not know, good info tho. so he could be lean at WOT if he opened up exhaust? what changes can be made to compensate the FI.
are all Motorcycle FI's systems this way?
                  makes ya want a carb.
                  great info

Most cars/trucks do the same thing. They go on the rich side. Just like your carb should be set up. You don’t want 14.7 at WOT. And no, it’s rich enough that no mods will make it lean. It goes to this predetermined mixture at somewhere above 50% throttle. Not sure exactly where but you get the idea.

This is not new technology for you old carb guys, lol.

Thanks for keeping us up up to speed I guess as a scientist I assumed it was much higher technology than that what the hell is an air flow sensor for then and tps and O2 sensor crank position sensors if it is as simple as u say. I assumed but there was a linear response

Not linear. You want max power at WOT. You want optimal burn and efficiency at cruise. Those are achieved with different air-fuel ratios.

Any modern car/light truck is not linear either. Most go to open loop at or near WOT to a predetermined, more rich mixture. Although most modern vehicles use a mass airflow sensor and the Roadstar does not.

                  Quit bumping the rev limiter!

The fuelies are limited to 4,250 RPM and you’re out of the torque band by then any way.

Try short shifting a little sooner and it’ll still pull like a tractor in the lower revs. It’s a loooong stroke and built to pull down low. Leave the high revving to the buzzy, short stroke engines.

You can get an idea, in the chart, where the real [torque] power band is on these engines. They’re running out of steam before 4,000 RPM.
