  • New progressive springs in, no movement from forks at all

    By the book for my bike (2007 RS 1700 Silverado) fork oil, 10wt, 5.5 inches from the top. THEN install springs. Next add preload tube, 6.5 inches long per spec sheet. All done and took for a ride. Hit a bump and there was no downward deflection at all. had a friend ride and the same result. Anyone who has installed these care to chime in? Should I cut extra from the preload tubes? Ideas and comments are very welcome.

      did you have the legs closed like the instructions said as well? something tells me you had the legs full open.

        I'm with Smokescreens on this one. The measurement should be done with fork tubes fully compressed.

        One serious question then, since I missed that. Oil in with no springs, then extend, then add springs. Correct?

                Yeah, I checked my book, that's supposed to be 554 ml, lost the "m" somewhere.

                Yes it shows that, but I've written the quantity, 18.7 ounce.

                  I replaced my springs with Progressive and made a big difference in the nose dive! But whished I had gone with 7 or 10 oil. Would probably handle better?

                  Apologies for so long before writing. Once the corrected fluid levels were put in, the springs had a very different feel to them. Much tighter, but they don't jar you in bumps. In fact it's the opposite, they give more control than before. I need to add that going into and around the curves here in the mountains has a new and more positive feel to it as well. Overall, the bike just seems more solid in it's handling. I know it's objective but that's the best word I can come up with. In hard braking I find I don't dive anywhere near as much and the stability it gave the bike is well worth the cost and time to make the change.
