    Agreed. Look at the pulleys very closely. They could be damaged as well from that bolt.

      On the basis of all I've read... You know you need a new belt. But because the bolt remained in the belt... you're probably looking at new pulleys besides. You can use those rollers, or leave 'em out altogether, if you know about belt tension, and check it regularly. They start to chirp at you on decel, when the belt gets loose. There's no cheap way out here... for the money, you'll be way ahead if you replace belt and pulleys at this point.

        so I ordered a new drive belt, and as far as right now I am fairly confident that there is no damage to the pulleys. The bolt had bent and shaped to the pulley, so there was no grinding in the pulley itself. Is there anything I should be looking for specifically as far as potential pulley damage that would cause problems? I didn't notice anything, but just want to be thorough.

          Any burrs left by the bolt, sand them away.

        Don't just inspect the front pulley but the rear as well. You should try to identify the bolt. You originally had an oil leak. The bolt could be related to the leak. Just saying.....

          Man, if you get to keep your pulleys, you're in great shape! Just do yourself this favor though, even though you might not see any tooth destruction due to that bolt, run your fingers over and around each tooth on both pulleys, just to make certain... and, if necessary, as someone suggested, deburr any imperfections that might do harm to the belt.

          It was Spring of '15. I rolled one of mine out, started it up, dropped it into 1st gear to go... and nothin'! I was, What the...? I looked behind me, and there was the belt layin' on the driveway! I had a good chuckle, right then and there, because... it could have happened 100 miles from home... but, here, the thing let go right on my driveway! And, because I had 2 at the time, I just rolled the other one out instead, and still got to go for a ride! Have a spare Road Star... it's a beautiful thing!

            repairs are complete. thanks all for all the help in diagnosing, ordering parts, and finding manuals. it has been a huge help.
