Shipping cost for seat.

Probably in the wrong place but in a way i need to trouble shoot this.

I want to buy a Saddleman Renegade seat. The shipping to Au costs the same as the seat. Surely someone knows a cheaper way than DHL. I am not logistics savy.

Shipping out of the country is ridiculous. Even the Canada it's very expensive. I was quoted $685 to send a 37 lb muffler from USA to Ireland. That was the Absolute cheapest I could find

I've shipped worldwide for decades; thousands of packages. Australia used to be a bit tougher because their max box size was smaller than most other nations, at a mere 78", but they've updated that to 97". Most countries are 108".

The ONLY way to ship internationally is via the USPS (Post Office). I'd think a seat would fit into that max box size.

Go to www.usps.com and plug in some numbers.

I plugged in a package of 24 x 10 x 16" (inches) that weighed 12 lbs., and it comes up as $123 for Priority Mail. You'll have tracking info. Insurance is extra. A seat box may be larger, but it can be repackaged if needed. I've made a ton of custom packages to squeeze under the size limitations.

Scott, the problem was not the weight, but the length.

For packages like that, I use someone like Pilot Air Freight. They're an LTL trucking company that also deals internationally. They'll ship air or sea. Sea can take months, depending on when they'll be shipping the next container. Air is quick.

Great source to ship a bike, if you know how to crate one and can get it to their terminal. They'll pick it up as well. I normally ship terminal-to-terminal to get the lowest price.

I pulled up a quick seat (Harley) on Amazon and the size specs were even smaller than I'd guessed at, but damned close. It also weighs less. I'd think that should ship via USPS for around $100. Some companies charge you a fee for the service.

Don't know why they'd be shipping DHL when the Post Office is so much cheaper. Be sure to have them insure it and send you the tracking info.
