Remove shock

Trying to remove shock.
can’t get the collar as shown on pic (clymer book) out because can not get past the frame lugs : shock does not seem to move up high enough to clear the collar/hole.
Any tips?
I am not replacing the shock but want to clean and grease linkages.

Remove the entire shock assembly is one unit from the bike. Very easy to do. Don't try to disassemble it in the bike

I am following instructions as in Clymer manual…. How should I get the whole assembly out?

Is it possible to leave collar in and pull the whole shock back? I thought collar would stick through both frame lugs…

Also you don't need to grease anything in the shock. The stock shock is terrible and should be replaced with a road wing shock made by our members here. It is a modified Goldwing shock and spring for the road star.

Done…. Shock out and back in again until I find A RoadWing. Next time it will take 10 minutes : was good practice today.

Yes Jack the bike up, put a little pressure on the rear tire upward and two bolts in the shock drops out. Easy peasy.

Is there anything that needs to be greased on the back end while it’s opened?
