Harley Davidson bags removable

Am trying to remove the Harley Davidson bags, I think it needs some sort of key to remove them, anyone know?

Open lids and unbolt from frame I would assume

Nope, those are lockable EZbrackets. The only way to remove those is with a barrel key. The only way to get a replacement is to take those brackets to a locksmith and have them make new ones. Really gonna be hard to do for the locksmith. You are gonna have to unbolt the bags from the brackets and then somehow unbolt the EZbrackets from the fender stays and take then to a locksmith. I have the same setup on one of my bikes.

Can I buy the barrel key instead?

I lost the adapter that allowed me to take my locking lugnuts off of my truck once. I welded some old nuts to the locking nuts and took them all off. Is it possible to tack something or JB weld something on them to be able to get them off?

I agree that a key is the way to go, but I thought the problem was actually the bolts no workie without said key

Those keys are unique and individually keyed for each individual lock. Think car key. So yes you need a key but a locksmith has to reproduce it. They are pretty good theft deterrents because they can't be picked like a normal cylinder pin style lock.

Your best bet is to look inside each saddlebag and remove the nut/bolt assembly that holds the bags to the EZBrackets. Once the bags are removed you can drill holes where the fender stay bracket bolts are so you can then insert an extended allen socket to unbolt the stay bolts to remove the whole thing to either get it to a locksmith who may or may not be able to replicate a new key or just get some used new bag bolts and another EZB Bracket and start over. Have you tried contacting the PO to get the key?

Am unable to remove the bags with that key lock there. Already removed all 4 bolts attached to the bars and couldn't remove them, am thinking there some type of lock switch that is holding the bags together
