  • Gas tank problem

    So any help with this would be greatly appreciated, its happe ed a couple of times and it seemed to happen right after I filled my tank. I go to open the gas tank and its like mount Saint Helen erupting... fuel everywhere. From what I've read I'm thinking the tank is not venting which is easy enough to remove the canister at the end of the vent hose but I can't seem to even be able to blow any air into the little vent spout on the tank, should I be able to blow air in or does that spout only allow outward flow? Thanks in advance for any help.

    Sounds like your vent is clogged or your rollover valve that is on the tube coming from the vent.

      Now is the roll over valve inside the tank itself, I was able to push a small wire part way into the little spout that comes off the tank and I could feel something spring loaded.

        There should not be anything inside the vent nipple that comes off of the fuel tank. But the bend in it may be what you are feeling. Remove the hose from the vent nipple and see if you have the same problem. If you don't then the problem is downstream in the hose or at the rollover valve.

      Rollover valve is on the vertical frame tube behind/ next to the fuse box. It is not spring loaded it is a ball drip check valve. I removed mine completely just before going pumpless. It was plugged needed some deep creep to get it loose. I seem to remember using a piece of tubing from the removed AIS to join both hoses together after removing the rollover valve. This is how my tank is vented once gone pumpless and no smell no starving issues. Not too sure how the vent works on the tank and how it is setup. Wonder if you would remove the rubber hose to it, and see if it is the hose to the rollover valve or the tank vent itself. Narrows down the search.

      In that breather nipple on the tank is a ball abd spring which allows the tank to breathe in only, you can drill it out by going straight in with a small drill through the small hole, then I drilled vertically down into the pipe so the tank can breathe in and out and covered the top hole with petrol resistance putty, the rollover valve is located further along the breather pipe and can get stuck and needs to be cleaned or put in the bin
