  • Banjo Bolt Leak

    The bottom Banjo bolt (8mm) on the left side oil delivery pipe Y wont stop leaking. I've changed both brass washers and she still leaks. Torqued to 15 flbs. Any ideas?

    Spray about three coats of permatex copper gasket spray on the washers.

      Unfortunately up here in Canada we don't have it in spray form. I got this instead. Hopefully same results. Thanks Shores!

        I wouldn't use that if it's a caulk type material. The spray copper is just a very thin sticky film.

        It is a caulky type material but i only applied a small film. I'm hoping it works.

      I had the same problem and put new non OEM copper washers on and still leaked. I looked for soft copper washers and couldn't find them, but ran across these brake line washers. They worked for me.

      Just to note; That bolt, on the engine case, is a 8mm bolt size. and the bolts that goes into the heads are 10mm.

        The Canadian Tire in Burlington doesnt have it. The "Sales Representive" told me Its not in Canada lmao! Thanks Mort for finding it!

          Yes sorry its an 8mm bolt but a 12mm wrench fits it. Thanks for the rubber washer info. If this copper gasket stuff doesnt work then thats plan B.

              Be careful, and don't over tighten that bolt.
              Don't ask me how I know!! It can be a pain in the butt.

              And what happens if over tightened thr bolt and stipped the threads in thr nome..not on the bolt?..ya ya I know...solutions?? Please help

            I removed my oil deliver pipe, and now worried about getting it to seal too. I found the rubber bonded washers on Amazon and just ordered a set

              Just an update....after using the Permatex Ultra Copper sealant we have no more leak!! YAAAA!

                Ok and what happens if over tighten that banjo bolt and strip the Damm threads on inside of the bolt hole...not the bolt??

                  Try to clean them up with a tap. If that don't work you will have to do something like a Helicoil repair. Or even tap to the next closest size up in an SAE size and buy the SAE size banjo bolt.

                    Yup!
                    If you tap, be sure to only go in about a half turn at a time and then turn back out before going in further. Take your time.

                    Sometimes I even put grease on the threads of the tap and the shavings stick to the grease and don't fall into the cavity of whatever I'm tapping.

                  I know its an old thread but,
                  If anyone is ever looking for those Rubber coated washers and can't find them. See if you have a Polaris dealer local. Their brake lines use these washers on all their atvs sxs and slingshots.
