  • Air hole plugs.

    It's bin a while I vist the Clinic. But now I have a question. I saw a drawing of the dimensions from these Air hole plugs. There was also a whole, 8-10 mm with M4 thread. I wondered what the function was from this whole. Can somebody give me an explanation?

    Lets back up a minute. Are you talking about AIS removal? If so what year bike ?1600's are different than 1700's if not AIS what air holes?

      Someone send me this picture. Its about the XV1600. The measurements are clear, but I was wondered what the function was of the whole, 8-10 mm with the m4 thread. The plugs are alright.

        I think he’s asking about any remaining holes in the air box after removing the AIS. From what I understand on a carbonated bike, there will be one hole in the air box if you totally remove the AIS. It needs to be plugged. If you reroute the rear valve cover breather tube from the air box, then there will be two holes to plug. Maybe he is asking about some of the irrelevant plugs that often come with an AIS removal kit.

            If you remove your Air Induct System to get a cleaner look you have two holes in either cilinder and these has to be closed. I think this system is not on the American model, but on Californian and European models. And if you don't now what system I,am talking about you also cant give me a clear answer. So let it go!!

              Yes these are to go into your heads when the AIS elbows come out. I don’t know why there would be M4 holes in the face, unless they wanted to screw some kind of cover on them to make them more appealing...Ace

              I know exactly what the AIS is. Go back and look at your half ass question with no info on 2 post. I asked if it was for the AIS in my 1st post and didn't get a straight answer from you.If you don't know how to plug a hole in the head bring it to someone with more knowledge. BTW I'll let it go.

            Members on this site know everything about all years of Roadstars. But they need a better explanation of the question.

              Shores, I tried to get some clarity but it was useless. All I got was a smartass reply to let it go if I don't know what a AIS is. lol

              If he has been following the form, he should know, that you know what you are talking about. We all got to see what is going on.

            Just use a 45 auto, or a 45 Colt shell casing. It works perfectly.
            No threads needed.
            I don't know why the drawing shows a threaded hole, unless it's to remove the plug at a later time.

              Thank you for your reply. I did a lot of AIS removals with home made aluminium plugs. And yes, I now the differences between the 1600 and 1700 engines. The solution is clear, the whole inside the plug stays a question.!! The reply that maybe there could be mounted something on this plugs is the best answer. I build and maintenance these bikes for 12 years now, so if anything new appears, I am very curious, I want to now it all.

                The drawing you provided shows the recess in one view only, not in views that would answer your question, looks like a decorative use for the end user. You need not be so arrogant when your use of the english language is not the best to describe what you are asking, just saying.

                I,m sorry if the uncorrected use of the foreign language has led to misunderstandings and negatively influenced the discussion. That was certainly not the intention.
