    Many long moons ago I ground the dog leg or whatever it's called and done the flip, then when the frame broke where the shock goes I put it back together as standard, now that a couple of years have passed and I have trouble throwing my leg over the bike I am considering lowering the back again, I can't remember how this mod affected handling due to short term memory loss, any advice. Thanks John

    A different/lower seat can also help out with ease of getting on and off...

      If your a spirited rider, the flip and grind will just make you scrape that much sooner.

          If you haven't already done it, it'd be worth installing a Roadwing. The stock shock is notoriously weak for a bike this size and it's only a matter of time before they wear out. Doing the dogbone flip will only amplify the effect. The Roadwing would improve handling and having the adjustable preload helps a lot too.

            if you want to lowwr the bike i agree its time for a wing or full progressive shock. you can get a thinner seat and get the same effect but your backside will get sore faster

                I did the Flip & Grind on my '01 5 years and 45,000 miles ago . The stock Shock gave up right away . Got a 1800 Goldwing shock and did the conversion myself but , had to do some additional Grinding to the Relay . If I could ever figure out how to post pictures on here I'd show you what i ended up with. Anyway , this thing rides and handles so well that I have to remind myself to take it easy , I Scare myself sometimes. Need to add , I moved my Floorboards forward 3" and UP 1 1/2" to eliminate the problem dragging in curves and corners. Also did RaceTech frontend springs with Gold Emulators and 15 lb. oil.

                  Post some photos of your floorboard relocation mod. I'm considering doing mine and would love a example to follow. I've done the Roadwing rear and Gold valve emulator/progressive Racetech with 15wt oil front and cannot believe how well the bike rides now.

                I done the flip and grind some time ago but can't remember how it handled so I will change it to the lower position, thanks for your information. John

                  It will handle better if you lower the front the same amount as the rear.
