  • Single Turn Signal Fast Flash

    I installed a new LED headlight (Sunpie Daymaker) and new License Plate light (Sylvania) and I have my right turn signals (front and back) fast flashing. I am not sure if it has anything do with the LED installs or bad/loose wiring. Has anyone experienced this before? TIA

    Only the right side? That's odd.
    I'm interested to know why that's happening too.

      I read somewhere that when you install LED lights in a motorcycle electrical system, that you have to install diodes into the wiring... I think it was on Kuryakyn's site, and that it didn't affect R* that have the factory LED taillight (personal observation).

        I did some testing today and I think its the flasher relay that is going bad. Disconnected all of the LEDs and ensured that each turn signal light on each side was good by disconnecting them. Unfortunately, the problem still exists. I have never experienced anything where one side works just fine and the other is hyperflashing.

          Sounds more like a short someplace to me.
          The flash rate wouldn't be affected by anything done with the headlight, tail/plate light.
          You could even unplug all those & you shouldn't see a difference in your flash rate.
          I know because I JUST finished rewiring a 1600 with all new lights, including converting it to LED headlight & spots.

          LED signals would mess with the flash rate because they offer almost no resistance to the flasher compared to the stock incandescent bulbs.
          A dead bulb in one of the signals will affect the flash rate because the resistance at the flasher would be half with only one bulb loading the flasher.

          1st thing I'd do would be to DeOxit the signals bulb sockets to make sure you have a good electrical contact in all 4 pods.
          Since solid state flashers are only about $2 I'd stick a new one in & see if it fixes it, especially if it's an original flasher in a 1600.

          One other thing I'd check if you pulled the signal bulbs out.
          Did you put one in backward? Meaning the pins are on the wrong side.
          That would reverse the filaments in the bulb (running / flasher) and load the flasher unevenly.

          You didn't install an LED integrated tail/turn light on the bike did you?
          If so you'll need to add resistors to the signals unless you use a SS or digital flasher.
          Most integrated tail setups have those in the kit (mine did).
