  • Transfer case removal

Ok, I got a 2002 roadstar 1600 midnight. In the process of taking the engine out. Now in the service manual it basically says I have to completely gut the transfer case in order to separate it from the engine. Is this true?? Or is there a way to separate and remove the transfer case without having to completely gut it???

DK but if you are just pulling the engine out of the frame, just lay the bike on the left or the right side ( I can't remember which ) unbolt the engine and lift the frame off of the engine. Much easier than trying to lift the engine off the frame.

I appreciate the response. And I'm sorry if I sound like a d$%k. But that response literally had zero to do with my question. I understand people lay the bike down to take the motor out. I'm not doin that. I have no problem lifting thr motor out. My question is about the transfer case. Again I apologize if I sound rude, not my intention.

No need to be an asshole, you mentioned taking the engine out first, are we a little stressed sir?

If you're removing the engine, take everything out in one piece that would be the very easiest. Here are some pictures of my bobber when the transfer case was removed when the builder decided to go chain drive on right side to give you an idea.

If your removing the engine then remove the transfer case. It really isn't that hard, just a few more steps to do and is a good time to inspect everything. You don't have to completely take apart the transfer case, just the drive chain, "right", side and belt cover to remove the belt

from Solon, IA. I've not done this so not 100% sure But I wouldn't think you'd need to completely gut it. But looking at a parts breakdown obviously you'll have to open it up to separate from the engine. As mentioned above, maybe a little more context to what and why you're doing this might help with answers. We're here to help but aren't mind readers so a little patience is needed.
