Bracket placement

So I picked up this 2002 Road Star 1600 knowing that it needed some work, I got it pretty cheap and wanted a project. One of the issues was that the crankcase was leaking oil, not a big deal, I'll just have to tear it all down and reseal it. This will give me an opportunity to replace all of the gaskets and seals as well. I'm at the point now where I'd like to get things back together. I'm following the Haynes manual for instructions and specs on everything, but I cannot find where this bracket goes. I've looked at every page in the Haynes manual and nothing like this bracket is pictured, that I can find. Any help would be appreciated and......if you have criticisms or sarcastic comments for me I'd love to hear them.

Well I picked up an '03 as a project and have torn a lot of things off of it to paint/polish/fix. Can't say I've seen a bracket that looks like that. Hopefully someone else will recognize it.

From Texarkana, in the Arklatex. The brackets were in a box?

From the looks of this bracket it will reside inside the engine, the color and white marks on the bolts lead me to believe this. The bracket was not in a box until I tore the engine apart. I was pretty good about bagging and tagging all of the parts and bolts but this one is untagged and I can't remember where it came from.

Nice find! That looks exactly like the bracket. Is that inside the middle drive?

Looks like an oil splash guard in the oil tank, good find sir.

A plate that helps divert hot oil to the left side of the tank when oil is coming into the tank from the crankcase.
