Hi Guys, I’m new here and this is my first post. I have a 2001 roadstar down here in New Zealand. I’m replacing my starter cables from the stock ones I’d love to buy some already made ones but finding custom stuff here in nz isn’t that easy, so I’ll make some up. So question for davej, what gauge wire should I use? Cheers

The starter on the R/.S is really easy to rebuild( for cheap ).
All the components needed are available from WWW.mrcycles.com for way less than from the dealership.
I rebuilt the starter on my '00 in '09 for about $60.
While I had the starter off the motor, I scuffed it up & shot it with some Krylon.Did it all in about 3 hrs. Installed some fat wires (got mine from Bulldog back then) & was amazed at the difference. Almost spun the motor our of the frame !

wires installed easily and do make a notable difference in starting speed. i do however want to upgrade to the warrior starter as i got this bike very cheap and like the idea of stronger parts for the job. can anyone tell me if i use a 1600 or 1700 warrior starter motor? are they the same on that bike?

All warriors are 1700 EFI

Warrior starters are a good way to go. If buying a used one, make sure the magnets haven't been loose.

The OE starter and ground wires on a roadie are pretty lame I used a set of these, pre made they are very well made...

I make and sell them for $50 shipped in the U.S. Max is way overpriced. As he is with most everything he sells.

I wish I would have scanned over the forum better and found you sold them, the guys at the shop told me where to get them. Do you happen to know where to get a set of dyna coils? Maxx is crazy high.

Duke, I'm not making much at all. Now with the new increase in shipping it eats up even more. I haven't raised the price since I started offering them and I have absorbed about $3 in shipping increases and a couple bucks in increased supply cost. They nipped a little bit at a time. I think here in the near future I am gonna raise the price to $50 shipped. It will cover the increased shipping and increased supply cost.

Yes, I know that your not making anything on your cables. I've made a set up a few years ago with welding lead cable, good crimp eyes, and heat shrink. My cost for the parts alone was close to $40.00.

The heavier cables are a great upgrade and is better for your starter.
