  • RS Maintenance Tip (or not)

I found a new use for my old car ramps, see attached pics. I use my MC jack to lift the bike and slide the ramps under the tires and the homemade kickstand riser under the side stand.

At this point we are a kid free zone... LOL I realize it could tip over if pushed or wrenching on it with a lot of zeal could knock it off the ramps. I'm open to other ideas, just using what i have on hand.

A cheap $100 harbor freight or craftsman motorcycle jack with a strap would be Much much safer than that.

I have a HF jack, that's how i get it on the ramps. When on the jack the oil drain plugs are as accessible, hence the car ramps.

Can't help but think they'll be a You Tube video out soon with you under the bike.

With proper common sense being exercised it’s a great idea. Maybe a couple ratchet straps anchored to something high up on the walls or even the ceiling if you’re worried about it falling over ever.

I have 2 old ramps like that... can't use them for much of anything anymore, as almost nothing can be driven up on them... nearly all cars now are too low. I have both an HF and a Sears jack. Can pick the bike up, put it on the ramps... and build a similar platform for the sidestand... and, yea, it's a great idea for the whole oil drain purpose. A change only takes about 20 mins., then lift it off. The ramps will shorten the process, as you can open both engine oil drains, and the transfer... all at one time! I'm gonna do it! Thanks!!!

Years ago I made some 2x8 boards about 3 feet long. Have a big screw that goes into one of the ramp holes. It makes it so I can drive those low sitting vehicles up on the ramps.

I lift my bike with a jack and slide my Corn Hole boxes under the wheels. The wheels sit in the holes in the boards pretty well. Also had to make a kickstand landing. Good idea with the ramps, gave mine away along time ago.

I thought your 4x4 idea worked pretty well up in Spray. Never would have thought of that and no need for a jack.

Would you care to elaborate? I'm curious.

I only use the lift to get the bike level and drain the engine plug. Good idea but I would probably tip it over and wouldnt be happy lol

For oil changes, I put 2 2x4s under the kickstand and my HF jack under the right side frame. Seems surprisingly stable, but I wouldn't leave it unattended.

With the way Murphy follows me around, either I or my bike or both of us would get hurt with that setup...guaranteed! Very innovative though.

This is off the topic but BradG wanted to see the "lift" we used at the MnG in Spray. Just blocks I found in the back campground area. We rocked the bike left and right and stepped up a block each time. Same for lowering. While your looking notice all the mods on shores bike, the baggage platform he made, windshield lowers, windshield insert at the bottom of the windshield, turn signals, and I may have missed a couple...

Thanks! I recall that pic but didn't recall the rocking to get the bike up on them. That's a clever way to do that without a jack handy!

Yeah, that is a great tip if you are needing to put your bike up but don't have a jack.
