Stuck Seat?? Broken seat cable?? Here's how to open

THIS TOOL WILL NOT WORK ON 2008+ FUEL INJECTED MODELS BECAUSE THE POSITIVE BATTERY TERMIINAL IS ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BIKE!

Alright my Roadstar bruddahs and sistahs! Recently there have been many people posting of #stuckseat #stuckseatlatch on their Roadstars. I decided to make a tool to get that seat un-stuck and released! I've seen a video showing that the latch can be released from the left side with a long screw driver, but I personally haven't been successful with that method.

I used .25" diameter x 1' metal rod to make this tool. I ground down one end to make is similar to a flat blade screw driver, and bent it to be able to access the seat latch mechanism. I'm sharing the dimension so that you can make your own tool, and also the Youtube link on how to use it. If you want one already made, I can make you one for $30 shipped CON-US. (cheaper to make your own, but I will offer to make you one if you like)

After you get you seat off, remove defective OEM seat release cable and add one of my secondary seat release lanyards!

I totally agree roadiemort. Problem is that I've been seeing new roadie owners that got a bike that wasn't properly maintained, and can't get their seats off. I'm merely providing a solution to actually get that seat off without destroying it. If you have a better way of removing a seat with a broken or stuck cable, I'd love to know about it.

Just as an FYI, on a 2008+ bike the starter relay is where your tool is passing through.

Brad_G I totally appreciate you chiming in on this. I've had Roadies since 2001, but have never had a FI Roadie, so I wasn't aware of the starter relay being in that location!

gr86ss I don't currently have a photo of the bike with the side cover off. Next time I'm over at the shop where I have it stored I'll try and get a picture.

The tool problem on my 2012 R* would be the positive battery terminal, not the starter relay, which is located several inches lower than the battery terminal. (The relay terminals are located on the bottom of the relay, so those wouldn't be a problem.)

Thanks for the follow-up with pic. I knew the relay was i that location but couldn't recall exactly where in relation to where he suggested using the tool. Yeah hitting that positive lead would cause some pretty good excitement!

Mahaloz Brad_G for the pic and also the clarification of the difference between the FI and Carb model battery difference! I need to edit my post to state only for 99-2007 model years. I've never owned a FI Roadie, so I wasn't aware that they changed the battery pole positions to the other side.
