  • Rear Wheel Removal

    Ok, I bit the bullet. I'm getting rid of my wide whites. I am buying an Enforcer front wheel setup and of course it's a black wall. I will be finally giving a Michelin Commander II a try on the rear and want to remove the wheel myself. I've never done it for fear of the alignment, etc.

    I'm looking for pointers and tips to make it easy for my first time.

    Removing the fender makes it the easiest, but you don’t have to. Jack the rear up until the tire is off the ground, take off the bags, loosen the brake caliper Bolt where it is stabilized to the frame or just set the caliper aside, loosen the axle nut, have someone lever the weight of the wheel with a shovel and pull out the axle. Piece O Cake! You don’t have to loosen the axle adjuster bolts.

      It sounds easy enough. I'm going to miss the whites but I'm excited to see the bike on the Enforcer. I've played with Photoshop some. I'm not a pro but I like the look already .

          I do. The wheel I am buying is already set up for bolting to a Roadstar. I just need caliper spacers I guess .

            So, Just found this, because I'm fixing to swap tires on my 03 Silverado. I'm sure it's a stupid question, but if I don't loosen the adjuster bolts, how do I get the drive belt off and back on? My puny mind cant seem to visualize this. Usually I learn stuff the hard way, so taking advise is a learning curve in itself!

              Leave the adjuster bolts alone. When you remove the axle, the wheel will move forward and allow the belt to come off. When you put it back together just put the belt on, slide the axle in from the left side and leverage the wheel so the axle can slip through the right side and the adjuster. Having another person helps, but you can do it yourself if you raise the wheel a little higher with wood blocks. Don’t get carried away jacking the rear up....just go high enough to lift the tire 1/2” or so off the ground. Remember, a new tire is taller than a worn tire.

                  Also it’s easier if you move the brake caliper out of the way.
