  • best way to lube cables

I have never lubed the throttle and clutch cables, what is the best approach?

  • #2
Probably with the tool made specifically for that, but I don’t have one. I just remove the cables from the levers and slowly drip it in until it runs out the bottom. I use a liquid lubricant that dries to a dry powder. 58K on my stock cables.

For Heavens sake, don’t use WD-40! It’s a penetrant, not a long lasting lubricant.

Royal Purple makes a product called Synfilm...a synthetic lubricant. My experience has been quite good with it. I've used it on my fishing gear, guns and cables with good effect.

A common result of using oil or WD-40 is making the cables turn brown. Can’t remember the stuff I used last, but got it from a bicycle shop. Anything similar to this. There are lots. Mine was a white liquid that dries to powder.
