Steering bearing adjustment

When adjusting the tension on the steering bearing. How do you adjust it properly when you have the fairing off of the bike? If I install the fairing I can't get too the adjustment nuts?

You can make your adjustment using the flop test..however if your using your fairing it will change once you reinstall it. You could weigh the fairing and add some weight to simulate it, and adjust accordingly

I did 15 lbs torque. Still fails but not has fast. Steering feels fine. Thanks

u can loosen the top tree, and use a long punch and adjust bearing, u can see it from one side or the other?? than tighten tree and rpt flop test.

Yes I've done this too. But make sure you also loosen the top tree pinch bolts on both tubes as well as the center nut so the entire tree can be pulled down slightly.

I say just do the flop test without the fairing and leave it at that. The preload of the bearing don't change by adding the weight of the fairing. cranking down on the preload setting can damage the bearings. preload is preload. If you are really concerned just go a little snug on the flop test without the fairing. just don't get crazy with it.
