Changed Oil, New Oil Leak

Swapped from Mobile V-Twin 20w50 to Rotella T6 15w40 + a shot of ZDDP additive a couple weeks back thinking it'd be a better weight for early season riding up here in the frozen North of eastern South Dakota. I now have a pretty significant drip that appears to be coming from from the stator wire grommet. Best I can figure the leak was probably already there but masked by the heavier oil - it is pretty grimy underneath. I'm sure the cold weather hasn't been helping (garage still in process, just now getting heat in).

Anyway, looks to be a reasonably straightforward process, just a new gasket and some sealant. Is there anything else I should be looking for or changing while I'm in there?

Any thoughts on the origin of the leak that I may have missed?

Paint in the ass area to scrape all the old gasket off....found that out when I upgraded stator and rectifier. If I were you I would brake clean the are real well and wipe down....clean as you can get it. Then dap some Permatex Ultra Grey and let sit for an hour. That might do the trick and save time.

Definitely like that idea. Worst case its just a little extra goo to clean off if it doesn't work.

I agree 100% with Lug that gasket is a paint to remove. If it would be stuck to the cover would be easy but no it is stuck to the engine in the tightest place possible. I have used Threebond 1184 for a leak similar to what is described on another bike and worked.
