Front brakes dragging?

Any suggestions on front brake caliper rebuild kits. After replacing my front brake pads they are dragging? I assume they have some build up of brake dust and debris? I did blow them out with air and cleaned them with brake cleaner prior to installing the new pads. Didn't seem to help? Thanks

Remove the calipers and the pads and make sure you can move the cylinders in and out with your hands. Use brake cleaner to clean out the debris. If they are stuck, you may need to disassemble the caliper and replace the seals and clean the cylinders.

couple thangs cause sticky calipers, dirt on the pistons, which leads to the 2nd, which is pitting of the chrome. best practice is to change brake fluid regularly,especially in humid states. and to clean shat out of the calipers regularly when washing bike, and then blow out with yard blower, ride till brakes get hot. often they can be cleaned up with brake fluid and 0000 steeel wool after diassembly, reassemble with brake fluid as lubricant.

guess were ASSuming you pulled them all the way in with a c clamp?

That's what I was thinking, that maybe the calipers weren't spread wide enough before installing back on the disc?

I spread them back flush before installing new pad. They were doing this prior to installing the pads. I figured while I had them off I would replace the pads, they still had a little miles left on them. I guess I didn't get them cleaned up enough. I'm going to do what Shores suggested before forking out money for a rebuild kit. Thanks

Make sure you are not overfilling the master cylinder to allow for heat expansion of the brake fluid. I usually fill mine between the low and high marks.

I think that is what started this issue. It was to the full mark when they started dragging. I bleed out some of the fluid and there is just one piston that is sticking. I'm going to take it off this weekend and remove the pads, extend the piston and clean them really well. I think that might take care if the problem? We'll see?

old thread hopethis helps cause this is what i have to do next. trashy fluid on 14yr old brakes. was told by shop to disasymble remove and use iol pressure to remove cylenders. remove square gaskie around the pistons. when working they roll tward the pad and when you releace this gasket relaxing is the only thing that pulls back on the piston. clean the grove with a pic to remove krud, clean the master with brake cleaner, replace piston gasket if clead and flexible or buy new. brakes drag if stuck in mud, or piston gasket is to stiff to recoil. I'm doing this to my 06 tomorrow. fingers crossed
