  • Best Way to Level a R*?

    Just changed out my transfer case oil and had a difficult time trying to figure out the best spot to measure the level of my bike. Ended up laying the level across the frame with the seat off. Curious how everyone else levels their bikes when required. Or if I’m overthinking it and should just toss it up on the jackstand, eyeball it and call it good

    Waaaaaay over thinking it. To drain oil/transfer case fluid I use a block of wood under kickstand to get it all out.

      You are overthinking the whole thing. Hold the bike where it looks relatively level and you will be good. You could even put in the amount that the manual calls for. lol

        As my FIL says, “ Don’t think too hard, you’ll hurt the team”. I just fill it and then sit on the bike until it quits dripping. It’s not that critical.

          Lol. Appreciate it. Thought that might be the case, but only after spending half an hour making sure it was perfectly level.

            Eyeball calibration is sufficient in this case.

              I use two 2X4's nailed together under the kickstand when I want it level. Don't bump it the wrong way though.

                Me too. But not a 4x4....that extra 1/2” will push the bike over to the right.

                  Now I have to go look! Edit: I wasn't thinking when I said that. I did see that when using the 2 2X4's it isn't 100% level for us obsessives. Still leans ever so slightly left. The only reason I ever wanted it level was to check the oil which after reading I no longer do.

                Sometimes it becomes necessary to level the bike. Fabricating foot peg mounts, relocating tail lights, etc. The frame doesn't offer a good place to check level so I use a torpedo level and plumb the rear brake disc or driven pulley. Quick and simple.
