  • Retrofit Warrior EFI on Roady

Has anyone added an EFI from a Warrior to our bikes? If so, how did it work out? What did you have to do? What did you use? Thinking of purchasing a throttle body of eBay and using a Cobra FI2000 controller.

Yes, I read the sticky on EFI. I’m asking for information from someone who’s done it.
    thank you

Your barking up the wrong tree, nobody here that crazy, we just buy the Warrior.

If you’re wanting to take the two (2!) throttle bodies from a Warrior and put them on any Road Star you're going to have fun stuffing them up under the stock tank. That is, if they’ll even line up with the intakes. The Warrior heads are different.

I was looking at a Warrior throttle body. Guess I won’t be using that. I didn’t know they were different.

You could do it, but it would cost far more than the bike is worth. You can pretty much do anything you want if you throw enough money at it.

I'm pretty sure that even if you bought a set of Warrior heads it wouldn't work. The heads might work on a 1700 but will not bolt down to a 1600 cylinder. I was told this by Jamie Patrick @ Patrick Racing when I almost ordered the wrong head gaskets for my bike. Lucky I caught my mistake before they shipped.

It can be done with "stepped line-up pins", but 1700 heads on the 1600 would require the 1700 cams and push rod as well.
Putting the 1700 jugs on the 1600 works too, as long as you use the two pins that line up the heads to the cylinders.
You would always use the 1700 head gaskets in either case.

Even if you could get some Warrior heads, throttle bodies, a tank to fit, don’t forget about the in tank fuel pump, fuel injectors, fuel pressure regulator, stock ECU from a Warrior and all the other fun stuff that’s needed to make them function, there’s more.
Most aftermarket fuel controllers sold that I know of just ‘ride’ on the back of the bike’s ECU output and manipulate the bandwidth signals going to the injectors.

It’s not going to be plug-n-play, by any means.

Realize this, your stock carb is more than adequate to fuel that mildly tuned engine. Stock heads, cams, and lower compression ratios would benefit little from fuel injection without all the other Warrior engine parameters included.

1700 Warrior heads on the 1600 would be a pain and expensive to do. Not counting the headaches with the EFI, the cams, push rods, fuel pump, gaskets, line-up pins, and exhaust would all have to be changed.

Even the front exhaust header would be exiting right into the front down tube.

I think if I where to do it I’d use an EFI from an 08 Roadstar.

I’m not trying to reinvent the wheel here. EFI controllers aren’t that much. Anyone done this?

Heres some Throttle Bodies that should fit our bikes from a 07-14 Road Star. After buying a controller I’d think you could do this for not all that much? Besides the cost, because some of you will think it’s too much, anybody done this?

                        Dude.

Again, you’re referring to Warrior injector bodies (read the seller’s description in the eBay link) and this whole thread has been about the trials and tribulations you’ll encounter trying to install said throttle bodies.

                        it’s a no-go.

Plus you would need O2 sensor in exhaust so would need another exhaust too if you are running ones without ports. Man you got deep pockets if you go along with this!

Just curious. Why the need to go FI on a ‘1600 engine?

If you’re thinking more power, banish the thought. Carbs, tuned right, do a damn good job of making ponies.

Fuel injection was mandated by the EPA. Carbs just couldn’t make the passing grade anymore. That’s pretty much the whole deal behind that.

If you think that slapping on a throttle body will give you Warrior dyno readouts, it won’t. Whole different animal breathing in those frames. Hotter cams, better flow heads, etc., so.....

I own a 2009 FI and carbed model Road Stars usually will smoke me. I just like it for the convenience. Pretty much trouble free since I bought it. No choke. Just thumb the starter at any temp and it fires right off. Drop it into gear and go.

Simplicity? Far from it. Fuel injected engines will throw more fault codes than Carters got pills if, and when, when a sensor (there are many) takes a dump you’ll need special tools and a thick service manual to figure out what the hell is going on and the replacement parts aren’t cheap.

That’s why I’m interested in it. Convenience. Tired of stuck floats, or dirty needle and seats. Just want reliability. Not trying to go fast. Anyone who thinks these bikes are fast, doesn’t know much.

A lot of people don't listen well. If you have trouble rebuilding a dirty carb maybe you should learn that here first, there are at least 3 gurus here to learn from. I'm not one of them.

“Anyone who thinks these bikes are fast, doesn’t know much.”

Never entered my mind when I purchased mine. I just wanted a big inch, loping, long stroke, low-revving V-twin to cruise the roads with that fit my budget.

The Road Star fits that mold for me. With aplomb.

Like Rodiemort said, a regiment of keeping the fuel clean and using fuel additives keep the carbed models running pretty much trouble free.
