  • Need Help

    Got code 37 which is the ISC is wide open. the bike rides great at off idle but will backfire and try to die at off throttle decel and has a high idle. I cant find any information on it at all. The dealer said i would have to buy a new throttle body which is $500. Anyone dealing with this or have a fix?

        Took the intake off sprayed brake cleaner up into the idle valve. Problem fixed. Until I put the intake back on then it pops the code back up and it idles high again. If I grab the throttle body it moves and the idle changes but when I spray brake cleaner on the couplers it doesn’t idle up. I’m so lost

          Where are you getting your diagnostic information? Their description of the ISC being ‘stuck’ open is misrepresented.

          Lost in translation.

          It isn’t stuck so spraying it won’t do any good. Their way of saying it’s in the wide open position. There’s reasons for that.

            Midland Yamaha dealer gave me what the code was. The code shows up on the dash when you turn the ignition on. Something is going on with the throttle body. I can grab it and move it around while the bike is running and the idle will go up and down.

              I'm by no means a bike mechanic, but if by moving the throttle body around physically it changes the idle speed, to me ti would mean two things. Either your moving the throttle cables making it change RPM or you have a vacuum leak that you're exposing or closing.

              Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me can chime in. But that doen't seem to me that the throttle body itself is the issue (unless by grabbing it your grounding it out and it has an electrical short).

                  So, was this done over the phone or at their shop?

                  Sure, they gave you the fault code meaning, but did they go into the diagnostics code meaning as to why it was displaying a fault?

                  What Brad suggested was one of the reasons I posted in an earlier post as to why it would throw that fault. There are a few issues that can be addressed before condemning the throttle body.

                  You need a service manual if you want to decipher all these fault codes yourself. You’ll need to be somewhat versed in what it all means and possess some tools and electrical equipment.

                  The bike can be put into a diagnostics mode with the switches where it will perform certain duties to isolate the defect.

                    It was all over the phone since the nearest Yamaha dealer and shop is about 2 hours away. I agree putting it into diagnostic mode would be great if I could do that. Unfortunately since I got this bike I have had to replace just about every electrical switch and wires. I have not replaced the handle bar switches. This damn bike is so close to being rebuilt just waiting a few more stock parts to come in. The 2008 and up road stars are hard to get parts for

                  Took the tank back off looked over lines. They looked good. But the rubber boots or whatever you call the that connect the throttle body to the engine are busted. I think that’s why the it keeps doing that when I put the intake on because it pulls at the throttle body and causes a vacuum leak. No I have to find these rubber boots.
