O2 eliminator plugs

  • O2 eliminator plugs

    Hello all. I have a 2008 Road Star 1700. Recently I purchased a Danmoto exhaust, and I have a problem with the O2 sensor holes being too big. The seller asked if I wanted to just plug up the ports and put some O2 eliminator plugs to fix the issue. I have used them on previous bikes, but I know the R* is a bit different than other bikes. Other option is send the pipes back. Would the O2 eliminator work ok?

    When i got my bike, the PO had put those on and rode it that way. I'm sure more experienced people can explain how it works and if its good or bad.

      Their resistance value fall within specs and trick the fuel system into thinking that there are O2 sensors on line when the ECU goes into open loop looking for some feedback.

        Doesn't sound like a good idea to me. Seems all they do is fool the mapping into thinking the mix is right when it may not be....the whole purpose of the sensors are to make it right
        not all those who wander are lost......

          About the only time the ECU is in open loop and deciphering the O2 input is during light throttle (cruising) applications. This is where the exhaust is analyzed and is close to stoichiometric as you can get.

          Heavier throttle demand will throw it into a fixed, closed loop setting with a richer predetermined mix and the O2 sensors have no say in A/F mixture. The other sensors, head temp, air temp, barometric pressure, etc are still involved.

          Cruise settings are all about EPA mandates for cleaner emissions.

            I found perfectly fine bolts at Lowe's... Just a bit long, but I screwed them in, marked where to cut to, and cut and ground them down so as to cause no interference with the exhaust flow. And, I thought the Danmoto's sounded quite good, too! They are on an '01, I should add, so no sensors were involved. And, you WILL have to be resourceful and modify the rear frame mount, if ever you want it to work... Their engineering leaves a little bit to be desired. They look cool with heat wrap on 'em, too! I get a little more then mere popping, so I'm going to make an effort to remount them, to see if I can get a better seal somewhere, to stop any air leak.

              As finicky as our ECUs are with mods, I just dont want to screw something up.

                During open loop (idle and acceleration) the O2 sensors are ignored. It's during closed loop (cruise) when they are used.

                  Open loop vs closed loop. Now, see. I knew I should have referred back to my notes. I always get that bass ackwards.
