Howdy; Just a quick question about the choke. New to me bike and I have seen in a couple posts that there should be index's on the choke. I don't seem to have them. I can pull it out and turn it and it will lock in that postilion. Is this correct or should I investigate. thanks

Pull it out, but don't turn it. You should feel a few clicks as you pull it out. All the way out for full choke. In a click after 30 to 60 seconds. All the way in once it runs smoothly on it's own.

I don't know. I pull it out and spring pulls it back in unless I turn it just a little counter clock wise to lock. No clicks or anything like that when pulling it out. Works fine the way it is. Just wondering.

There is an adjuster that the knob bottoms out on.
Try turning that clockwise a bit & try the choke again.
        No Tools Required for this.

Yup found that and it adjusts tension when you pull it out. It is a 2001 guess that is the way it came. Shaft is flat on the bottom like old car chokes you can pull to any position and lock it there. Not a big deal works great just different I guess. thanks for the input. I am learning more about it every day. Guy just gave me one of those trunk's with the back rest in it. will be great for grand kids. Enjoy

First off I don’t think anyone’s grandchildren should be inside the trunk using the backrest.... secondly, got a pic of your choke? Maybe it has been replaced at some point with a non factory knob assy?

Brian, I'm surprised you have not yet drawn the wrath of one of our RSC members (can't remember who it is) who goes nuts whenever anyone refers to the "choke assembly". "It's not a choke, it's an enrichener," then he will go on to explain to you, sometimes in great length, the difference in the two. It's been kind of a running joke on here for a few years now, so just a heads up, you may have that to look forward to..

He hasn't been on here to rant about that for a couple of months. Nobody gives a piddly damn that it's an 'enricher'.
We all know what a choke is. We know when to use it.

I never did get why it upset him so much that people used the well known, commonly used, familiar term.

Lol. And to think, Yamaha’s designers went to all the trouble to include the international symbol for ‘ENRICHER’ right there on the knob.

Somewhere I have pics of a new cable I have in my possession. There are either 4 or 5 notches on the shaft, and there is SUPPOSED to be a ball and spring to engage those notches, as a pawl to hold the position. Many older bikes have corroded springs and the ball is no longer clicking into and out of the notches. I think I may have had a pissy exchange with Spydr at one time about this, (and apologized!) believing there were no notches, but as I found out, I had rusty guts in mine and the ball was not riding up and down in the bore. It was just stuck down on the rusted spring.

Wherever you go in life, ride there if at all possible.

That depends Entirely on the grandchildren in question
I'm Sure Mr Schenk knows his grandkids far better than We do.
