  • Float level

I'm having to take apart my carb due to a fuel problem so I want to install a grizzly valve and set the float. I been reading every thing I can on how to do set the float but I am in Texas for another month. I have some tools but a campground is not the best place to tear down a carb. Has anyone found a way to adjust the float with carb out of the bike and with no gas, like we can do it with other carbs? I using a picnic table for work surface. Our whole vacation is centered around riding the Hill Country. I want to ride!

Setting it on a picnic bench isn't the issue, just spread a towel out so you don't loose any tiny parts, the question is what to set it at. When you say Grizzly valve, I'm assuming you mean pump delete? You may want to ask that specific question, I personally don't know what it is for pump delete, but with a pump the*float* level is 5.25mm as shown in this photo:

Here's a good thread on float level in general: http://wayback.archive-it.org/10073/...limitstart,10/

The way back link is incomplete, no pics.
I read your post and was confused as you didn't say how carb was held. I assume level, but level where?
Yes, it already been pumpless for two years.

It was done on the bench. It doesn't have to be perfectly level, but for measuring, lightly blow in the bowl so the float pops up and settles back down under it's own weight.

What I did in the pic was hook a rubber fuel line to the carb fuel inlet and blow thru it until the float valve closed and I couldn't blow thru it anymore. That measurement is 3/8 inch to the lip on the float. Another way as you can see in the pic is to set it so that both sides of the float in the pic are parallel to the float bowl mating surface when the float valve seals while blowing thru the rubber fuel line.. You will find that is also the same 3/8 inch and the float valve will be closed. I have done quite a few carbs like this and it works perfect and it also stops carb puke. I took the pic with the rubber line removed for ease of taking the picand to get a clear view of the float and mating surface.Click image for larger version Name:	float adjustment post.jpg Views:	1 Size:	13.4 KB ID:	59564

Thanks guys. Got the grizzly installed and float set. Took it for a ride. Seems to have fixed my problem. I don't have a magnify glass to look at the needle, but it felt like it was sticking a little. At 90K, it probably needed changing. Bike seems to pull longer and stronger. Should have installed the grizzly long ago. Hope to do a longer ride tomorrow.Click image for larger version

Where'd you come up with that number? That's something nobody has seemed to pin down for a while now.
