As soon as you re-assemble the carburetor, you need to install the carb back on the Bike and you need to run the fuel pump to properly check the fuel level in the carb( that is if you're not pumpless).

Thanks Chief, excellent information! I’ll be checking the float level with the carb off as I’ll be doing the needle and seat.

No, Right side up, carb on the Bike and level with fuel pump on, you're going to need a long 5mm hex to crack the fuel drain on the carb with a clear hose ( aquarium type hose) attached to the brass tube at the bottom of the Carb, Take measurement at the Air filter side of the carburetor. Make sure that hose is up. I gained access to the Fuel drain bolt from the left side of the Bike with a 3/8drive Long 5mm hex with a 3/8 6" extension. Do not start the engine. Fuel measurement reference points is on pg 250 in the clymer manual or 6-14 in the Factory service manual, should be 4-5mm( 0.16-0.20in). The upper limit is the mating surface of the float bowl and carb and the lower is the bottom surface of the flange on the float bowl to the mating surface seam. Same for both 1600 and 1700 Bikes.

Thanks again Chief, the kit comes with the needle and seat. I plan on replacing them as well. One question I have is do I check it with the carb upside down and bowl up? I appreciate the help

If your fuel level is too high you need bend the Tab on the Float towards the Needle valve, that will lower the level of fuel in your carburetor. If the level is still too high no matter how much you bend it, you need a new Needle Valve and Needle Valve Seat.

Thanks Chief, I have a kit and a new cruise diaphram coming this week. I’ve done enough research that I should be able to get the kit installed without messing it up. I know where the float should be but not sure how to adjust it yet, I should say what part of the tab to bend

I suppose eventually enough may build up and I will have to take it off and wash it but it has 8K on it now and is still clean. I don't ride really aggressive.

Do you have any blow by oil on the Engine? I routed the crank case vent hose under the fuel tank using the PCV Filter and filter holder...................

What Cheif says is what I would say it is, float bowl needs adjusting, and make sure rollover valve/tube is not plugged.

You might want to check your fuel level in Carb. When I bought my bike, I had the carb puking gas all the time, I checked the fuel level in the Carb and it was out of spec( Too High), I adjusted the float and rechecked that the fuel level was to spec and no more carb puke.................

I agree Coach, it just looks like it belongs there. Symmetrical with the engine.

Thanks Ron. I’ve seen this done. Once I cure this carb puking issue I’ll visit the vent,
    Thanks again

it's a good mod and you can locate the breather filter just about anywhere. Some have it where NCB does, others near the rear horn, some under the air cleaner and others hidden under the gas tank. That last one requires a different and cheaper filter. Post a question if you want to know more.

Another option on the venting of the crank vent is a hose up under the gas tank with a breather filter at the end.

    Thanks N. I’ll do that

Thanks Doc. No smell of fuel in the oil. The crank case breather looks to run to the surge tank as well. The amount of fuel coming out of the hose is obviously not right. Once the kit gets here I’ll check the float level
