Hi I'm new to the clinic. I have a 2007 roadstar. My question is I have HK 3 in Long shot pipes k&n high-flow air filter stock carburetor what is the best main and pilot Jets to use. I live in northeastern Ohio if that helps

      from California.

Using Mikuni jets; if you have baffles in your HKs, 172.5 main, without baffles, 175 main. 37.5 pilot. Also, if you still have a stock needle with only one groove, get a Baron's needle, it comes in their complete jet kit, along with all the jets you need. Put the C clip on the 4th grove from the blunt end of the needle and turn the Primary Mixture Screw 2.5 turns out from lightly seated. A Baron's PMS makes life a little easier when doing the fine tuning.

If you're K&N filter is in a housing that resembles anything like the photo below, swap out your air bleed jet on top of the carb, under the big plastic cover, and replace it with a stock size Mikuni B30/97 1.0 air jet. You can get the air jet on eBay.

Hey guys I'm trying to jet my '02 with a big air kit and pipes with open baffles. The previous owner installed a jet kit that looks like a barons but I'm having some issues tuning it and I think someone may have gotten too aggressive in cleaning it in the past so I'd like to replace the main and pilot to be sure. I saw someone posted the part number for the mikuni pilot jet is N224.103.37, does anyone know what the part number is for the 172.5 main? Should I go with a little bigger 174 or 175? Jetsrus has a stick up their behinds about returns/exchanges so I'd like to be sure before I order. Thanks

on a 02 don't go any larger than a 170 main jet. In fact only use a 170 if you don't have any baffles in the mufflers at all. You will get better performance with baffles installed and then use a 167.5 main jet and the 37.5 pilot. using a Barons kit. If you are guessing that it is a Barons kit and are wrong you are on your own trying to figure out what jetting will be best due to the difference in length, diameter and taper of the different brand aftermarket needles.

For a 1600 you want 167.5 main and 37.5 pilot...Muse adjustable baroness needle with clip on 4th groove (Needle 4th groove from short end with washers and spacer in stock position 1 silver washer and plastic spacer under the clip)

and turn PMS to 2m5 turns out....should be about right on there with warm idle set at 950

Whoops thats right, 167.5 main, does anyone know the mikuni part number to order on jetsrus? I'm gonna keep it free flowing and loud, I don't mind a few horsepower lost, also I'm cheap and not gonna spend the money on baffles. Should I go with a 168 main?

Where can I order a barons silver washer and plastic spacer?

What model of carb do we have on an '02? I've seen both mikuni 38 and 40, nowhere do I see the model name like hsr, bn, bds, etc. Thank you guys again

The carb for both 1600 & 1700 bikes is a Mikuni BSR40. There were a couple of insignificant changes thruout the years but all the inner parts are interchangeable for jetting or rebuilding purposes. As per DaveJ

no such thing as a 168 mikuni main jet for our carb. IMO if you are gonna stay with no baffles you are very safe in using a 170 main with a 37.5 pilot jet. the plastic spacer and washer should be on the needle that you are using right now.

I pulled my carb apart tonight, it was jetted for a 1700 with a 172.5 main and 40 pilot, the diaphragm was all distorted and out of shape too. No wonder I was having issues. I measured my main and it looks like I have N100.604 Genuine mikuni large round style in there, so I'll replace it with the correct size

If you have a 1600 with aftermarket air cleaner and aftermarket exhaust you will also need a 37.5 mikuni pilot jet that don't come in the kit. You will be installing a 167.5 main jet, 37.5 pilot jet, install the cliip in the 4th groove on the needle with the plastic spacer and 1 silver washer below the clip. Turn the pms screw 2.5 turns out. set the idle to 900-950 rpm. Then never touch it again. If you have never been into the carb leave the float alone.
                Hey Dave,

I found this thread and I think I know what the problem might be. After reading this, it dawned on me that I had bought a rebuild kit that was for a Factory setup. With factory Airfilter and factory pipes. I have the after market K&N Filter and also Vance&Hines Longshot pipes. So I ordered the 37.5 pilot jet and the 167.5 main. I already have the threaded needle. Do i set the needle on the 4th groove from the top or the bottom?

Counting down from the flat end put the clip in the 4th groove with the plastic spacer and 1 silver washer under the clip.

Slack007, Are you using a stock air box with the K&N air filter?
If using a stock air box, then you will need to open up, "cut out", the air opening for more air flow for the jets you are using. You would see a Big improvement in performance by doing that.
