  • Affordable air filter

    What are my air filter options ? Looking at the k&n rounds and the shorty cones . And I have searched the website for weeks honestly and can not find a mounting bracket for an air filter ,unless you buy the whole thing ,which from what I see are all 300+ . Any help would be appreciated .

    K&N RA-066V - on eBay for $57.99 - goes right on and flows more air than our bikes can use.

      most folks fab a simple bracket for the KN's ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

        Air Filters (K&N)

        RA-066V - Round, .813" offset, 2" deep, 6" diameter
        RA-067V - Round, .813” offset, 3" deep, 5.875" diameter
        RC-1980 - Oval, centered, 2" deep, 7"x4.5"
        RA-076V - Oval, .5" offset, 2" deep, 7"x4.5"
        RA-077V - Oval, .5” offset, 3" deep, 7"x4.5"

          K&N RC-1624 (pictured below). Under $50, no bracket needed. Clamps right on with (provided) hose clamp old school dirt bike style. Been running mine for 6 years, has never fallen off. Good leg clearance, breaths good, looks good. Only downside is loud intake roar. I myself like the loud intake roar.

              Try, what was it, AJUSA.COM for best prices? I bought from them a few years back... all were under $50 then.

                I am thinking about changing out the Yamaha K&N air box kit for the RC-066V or the RC-1980 K&N filters. I noticed the flange inner diameter is different between the 2 filters. The 066V is 65mm flange, and the RC-1980 is 62mm flange. The bike is a 2002 1600, stock carb. Assuming there is a bit of stretch in the rubber of the flange, will either of these fit? If so, I guess the question is if I want a round filter or an oval one..

                  K&N 1980 works fine on my scoot. No bracket, just clamp on with the provided clamp. Cheers!!

                    aluminum stock for the bracket, really should support it as the intake wo-manifold is rubber and a weak spot. it will cause instant way more air, so it will be lean, and require rejet for carb-ed bikes

                      Some guys without fab skills had more leaks with a bracket that was not perfectly centered than guys without, I'm going to just attach a fishing leader to mine for loss prevention lol.

                    Lol. Yes that's a great idea man ! Lol mine fit pretty snug honestly. But I'd say under extreme heat it could possibly fail.

                      I just used my stock housing with a K&N filter and 1" holes cut in the front of the black plastic part of the side. If I were in heavy rain, I might put tape over the top hole, but I've never needed to. I do have other mods, but the resulting air flow lets me get over 50 mpg every tank. Some have only made the intake holes on the backside of the plastic. I'm happy with the look of the stock chrome cover.

                        By tweaking the PMS I can get over 50 mpg with mine too but it's running WAY too lean! 40-43 is the sweet spot for mine...YMMV LOL.. Literally..

                        I have the k&n filter already so I'd like to go that route and did you cover the holes with anything?

                      What does everyone do with the vent hose coming from the back head ? I ran mine to the vent tube coming from the top of the carb. Has been fine so far ,but I have only started it and not rode it any

                        if it's at the top left of your carb, then that is the bowl overflow. You should remove it and run it down under the bike. You will see another tube at the center under the bike. i just zipped tied it to that one.

                              I have blown my air cleaner right off your carburetor backfire . the oval you can barely see bracket
                              3/4 in alum from HDepot.
                              and i route the PCV crap back into carb, probably not a good idea as it adds oily dirty shit

                              If you ride in the rain get a BAK, trust me I learned my lesson on big open filters.

                                The vent tube on the top of the back head is for oil vapor blow-by. The vent tube on your carb is for fuel overflow. Connecting the two is not a good idea. I ran a tube from the carb down under the engine. Some say you don't need a tube on the carb and they're right but I didn't want gas pouring all over my engine the next time the cab decided to puke. I also added a small filter to the blow-by tube straight up under the tank. Pics are worth 1000 words. Cheers!!!

                                  U can get a sock for riding .in rain has anybody tried that ? My Motocross brother says they use them a lot on dirt bikes
