Flagging spam

if you see a spam post, don't reply or comment on it. Just flag it. We get those flag reports and take action. That action is pretty simple. If the post is obviously spam we delete and then check few boxes to delete all other posts by that user and ban them permanently. If the post is questionable as spam then we can suspend the user and then send them a message to work it out.

    I had an issue with my oem enricher set up
    first the cable end that comes from the threaded portion broke
    then the plastic retaining nut cracked/ stripped
    The oem one was 85$ online....

    So i ended up finding one on ebay

    Smoothbore Parts Choke Cable - H-D with HS-40 Carbs Mikuni 990-662-001

    it was a direct fit!
    Cost about 30$ and it had a steel section/ retaining nut instead of plastic so it should be solid
    The only differences I can tell is:

    It was a bit shorter than the oem cable which was fine with me because I already had mine mounted on a bracket I made where the fuel pump used to be (cable routed over intake manifold)

    Also it springs back into place instead of being held out which I don't really mind since I usually only need it out for about a minute

    I suppose if you needed to have it stay out for longer you could use the old clothes pin behind the knob method (how I got a bike I was buying home once with dirty carbs)

    All in all I'm pleased, no more plastic nonsense

    Hopefully this helps someone, I have been unable to find out much info about the oem carbs on my bike ( 03 road star 1600 )

      It takes a lot of digging to get info. Motorcycle carbs just aren't your typical over-the-counter parts, and FI is making them slowly die off. The only aftermarket money left is in flat slide carbs as tuners don't care for a CV's throttle lag...

      Just to update this
      I ended up fixing the issue of the cable being too short
      After i removed the stock one long with the threaded portion that goes into the carb, the spring, and the enricher plunger, I compared the two cables side by side, with the knob pushed all the way in on both
      If you attempt this make sure the tensioner on the new cable is fully tightened in, it is hidden under a rubber cover (the stock one doesn't have a cable tensioner)

      The amount of cable sticking out of the sheath (stickout) was a little shorter on the replacement cable, it could be installed as is but as mentioned before the tension will always be there on the plunger and essentially the choke will always be on, just a little

      The ideal situation on this cable or any cable that needs adapting where this half ass hack will actually work is that the cables are the same length but the new cable's sheath is too long
      I wiggled the end cap of the cable sheath loose and out of the way and using an angle grinder with a cut off wheel and my eagle eye precision I trimmed the cable sheath without nicking the cable itself
      I mainly just ground it down till it was thin enough to cut with some dikes,I'm not THAT brave (or stupid) to just cut right through it with hopes of not cutting the cable itself

      This process basically increased the cable stickout on the new cable, giving the choke cable/plunger assembly the slack it needed to function properly, even if you cut it a little too short you also have the ability to adjust the tension on it with the tensioner assembly (cover that back up with the rubber cover you removed earlier)

      With all that being said and done and reassembled on the bike the enricher knob functions as intended, it stays out when it is pulled out and has the proper amount of slack
      The added benefit of the metal locking nut/metal knob housing is well worth the time, and comparing $30 and 30 minutes of my time to a new cable costing $80 the question of was this worth it wasn't even there.
