    since I'm building my r* from parts. I didn't get an ignition box or a carb. The dyna 3000 is the same price as a used ecu (used has no guarantee) for a carb I see huge price differences max air wants close to 800 and says his mods are mandatory for choke and mixture. SS custom cycles mikuni carb is 1/2 the price of max air and doesn't have all the mods maxair says are required. I have also heard of people running the S&S G carb but can't find any info. My engine is a 2007 with 4K miles on it. I will have the frame finished in a week or 2 I smoothed all the welds and molded all the brackets in. I'm letting the primer cure for a week so if there's any shrinkage I can fix it before paint it. The only mods are an open round air cleaner and a cobra 2-1 exhaust. I live in Florida but as soon as I sell my house I'm headed back to Oklahoma (for jetting purposes) please let me know what the best combination would be.

    Personally I would buy a used stock carb and a ported manifold then rejet the carb when you clean it up.

        Max Air = Run Away!!!
        Go with either a good used stock BSR 40 or talk to Shane at S&S Custom about an HSR42.

        For the record, there's Nothing wrong with the stock carb.
        lots of us just have *tinkeritis*.

          Davej may chime in here. I know he has had experience with both the stock carb, and an HSR 42 on the same bike before he jumped off of the “Go big or go home” cliff, with his 110 build.

          Stock carb is a great carb when it’s set up correctly. Reliable as a hammer, and a set it and forget it approach.
          The HSRs are mechanical where the stock carb uses vacuum, so throttle response should be a bit quicker with the HSR.
          The jetting on the HSRs tends to be a bit more involved when it comes to needle choices, and the jets that correspond to each needle.

          Like Spyder said, the HSRs tend to inspire those who can’t leave well enough alone.

            I installed the HRS 42 from S & S, it was a plug and play. It was spot on for my 2006 RS. One of the best mods I 've done.
            Also I have the Dyna 3000 on it too.

              As what Mort said, if your bike is going to be stock pistons and cams.
              The stock carbs works really well if they're set up right, and can give a better than stock throttle response if the vac ports on the slide are drilled. Along with that, Cv Carbs works fairly well compensating for air density.
              I have two bikes, one has the modified stock CV carb, and the other one has the HSR-42 and I really can't feel any difference in performance. The fuel mileage is way different, HSR-42 uses more fuel. I'm considering removing the HSR-42 and going back with a modified stock carb. I've been trying several settings over the last couple years! And going to try a couple of things first before I make my mind up.
              I'm using the Dyna 3000 ecm on both bikes and you can usually find them new for around $230.

                  Using the Dyna 3000, you can set the dip switches to spin up to 5500rpms with the 1700. It’s not recommended and is considered a bad idea to set it to anything over 5k with a 1600.
