  • Engine light on?

    Changing carb over to Makuni 42 got bike running, deleting pump cant find an actual write up on proper tank venting but the check engine light is on now. Bike is idling and running super smooth nice throttle response but the engine light is on any ideas?

        Yes i figured it out was the tps, im doing the Voes mod and ordered the dyna 3000 should be good now

          The TPS is by far better than the VOES mod which doesn't advance the timing properly.

            Make you're own TPS bracket, if your handy with aluminum strap.

            My engine light has been on since I bought my bike 3 years ago. Shop could not find a thing wrong with it. Been that way with and without the TPS.

              Jaybo, Did you say that your engine light stayed on, even with the TPS plugged in?
              The TPS varies the ignition timing thru the ECM. If your running a VOES switch, ignition timing is either full advanced or not.

              I could make the brackets if I had a HSR carb laying around. I have one on my kick around bike and would have to pull it off. Next time I remove it, I'll make a couple of them.
              I would need your carb to drill & tap a hole in the throttle cable bracket, cut a slot in the throttle shaft for the TPS coupler, and to adjust the ohm settings. Duke.

                Duke, Yeah, it was on probably 98% of the time. still is, pretty much always like before. the shop I bought it from could find nothing wrong when they checked everything out. I don't worry about it at all.

                Without the TPS doesn’t the timing automatically default to full retard?

                  Depends on the engine speed. Think of it as the way an old distributor would act with the vacuum advance disconnected. It will advance some as the revs build but at cruising speed a lot of timing is lost with the TPS disconnected. The difference can be heard.

                I ran for several years with a VOES and it worked OK..Then I modded a tps and can tell a bit of difference accelerating from a stop at the bottom end and Idle is smoother...
                not all those who wander are lost......

                  Is that what happens when sport bikes hit a certain speed? They default to full retard.
