  • What's you're speed when you hit 5th going WOT through the gears?

    Just curious what others experience. If this question sounds odd... It's not for you... But if you've run your bike through the gears at wide open throttle [WOT], assuming you hold it until just before the rev limiter kicks in, what speed are you going when you shift into fifth gear??

    I never go to WOT when running up the gears.
    However, if I let it cut loose, I hit around 100mph in 3rd.
    Don't know if that is actual speed as our speedos aren't correct.

                I went to Oriellys Auto Parts web site and purchased a 121g for my Roadie and it moves along pretty good when I shift into 5th.

                Try their web site and see if they have any more in stock. Just enter 121g in the search box. Seriously.

                Direct bolt on for the Roadie! Goes right where the AIS used to be. You just need to specify whether or not it is a 99-03 or a 04 and later.

                  Lance, I used to get close to 100, but after installing this from O’Reilly, I can now hit about 200 before shifting to 5th with it just idling.

                    I can always count on the smart-asses.

                    I was curious because, while dialing in my PMS yesterday, I did some WOT runs on an old airfield and noticed I was going about 90 when shifting into fifth.

                        Tried again today and realized the weak link was me. Or at least the road. I was running out of room before reaching the rev limiter in 4th, so I was short shifing into 5th.

                          Well, there you go! I was thinking, who of us even does such a thing on the road those days... at our age? Not ME! I am a loafing cruiser anymore... almost never go WOT!

                          I was just thinking the other day... if my clutch had become a slipper... I'd probably never even find out!

                            You actually can hit the limiter in 4th. It’s about 104 (indicated) if I remember correctly on my 2012. Conditions have to be right for it to be possible though. Ie, no uphill or strong headwind type of deals.

                              It should also be noted, that the rev limit on FI(08 and up)Roadies, is set at 4250rpms. The rest of the 1700’s will all spin up to 4750.

                              The ‘07 I had would be around 102 to 105 when shifting into 5th. My ‘03 is about 98 or so. I’ve only run it like that a couple of times. I don’t like running it that hard and I don’t like tickets either. And I don’t have a closed course to run either. I know these engines are built pretty tough, but in the back of my mind, I am afraid I might damage something also. Just me. Don’t need to go anywhere that quick.

                                With the 1700 box I hit the limiter in 3rd at just under 90. Been near 110 indicated in 4th and I went ahead and grabbed 5th, but wasn’t on the limiter and was running out of road. If you can pull to the limiter in 4th, your tune is good, given that 4th is a very slight overdrive. My Excel spread sheet says 114 (theoretical) for 4th, but I’m sure the 4% error in my speedometer is a factor. It’s fast enough. LOL.

                                  I'm waiting on Mr Fusion to be released before adding on the Flux Capacitor. Having a hard time finding fuel.
                                  I rarely hit 88 mph as my right hand holds me back nowadays.
