    My 2008 came stock with a 32 tooth primary front pulley. I changed it to a 33 tooth from an earlier model and it lowered the RPMs at cruising speed about 500. A lot of folks change the front and the rear but I just went halfway and changed the front only for a higher ratio. You can read tons of comments on this forum regarding the erratic behavior of aftermarket processors on the road star specifically. I don't know why they don't work but all I know is that they generally don't work. We've had a couple people who have got their bikes to successfully run with one but they aren't convinced that the performance was any better than just using the stock ECU. Most folks take that $500 piece off and use it as a paperweight. I am running the stock ECU with freedom performance true dual exhaust in the universal k&n intake filter. Runs like a bad out of hell and has 70,000 miles on it.
    Can the stock belt be used with the 33 tooth pulley ?

      Yes I believe you use the same belt.

      I traded my heel shifter for it from a member here. It’s from a 2000 RS.

        I have gotten close to 50 mpg stock on my old '03 and my '07. Then, I put the V&H Powershots on and jetted the carb. I didn't do it, a local shop did. Now, I get 35 mpg average. If I run some FI cleaner, it goes up to maybe 40 mpg with a moderate throttle, which is hard to do in E. TN!

          Methinks it's the guy twisting the throttle rather than the upgrades.

          Upgrades = Throttle twist rate = Fuel consumption

          I have upgrades with a Hypercharger and regularly get 50+ MPG. I wrap my wrist tightly with duct tape before heading out on a ride. That prevents wrist movement altogether...

        Remember the other things that affect mileage too. Are you 180 lbs, or 280 lbs? Do you have a fairing? How about riding 2-up a lot? Then there’s how heavy handed you are on the throttle. My 2000 (carb) roadie sees the gas mileage drop significantly when I am going over about 70mph. I am a bigger guy, at about 260. When I’m riding in town I get 37-38. If I’m on the highway and keep it at 70 I’m usually in the 41-42 range, windshield no fairing.
