  • Pms question

    I installed a new carburetor, and the spark plug is black after some riding, 1 full turn in or half do you think?

    Really need to know your full setup. Year, miles, modifications, what jetting and carburetor, exhaust, air and take system, etc. A good place to start with PMS is to get it lightly seated all the way turned in and then out 2.5 turns

      Got it. The bike is a 2000, I'm not sure what jets are in it, I posted on here to figure out what pipes are on it but I'm not sure, guys are saying it looks stock with slip ons.. but Im not sure.

      I turned the pms screw in about .5-1 turn. because that looked really black to me. do I have to clean the spark plug to look at the spark plug again after some riding? to see how it looks..?

      Im not really sure how to determine the pipes because there is no markings on them, what jets would be right for it, assuming its the just slip ons, with stock everything else?

        If your air intake is still stock then you don't need to have different jetting than stock. Regardless of your exhaust. But turning the PMS crew from where it's at is not great. Run it in until it's lightly seated and then take it out two and a half turns. But also before you do that you have to verify what jets are in the carburetor. If someone was in there messing around and threw in different size jets then adjusting your PMS is going to be difficult. I would buy all new spark plugs just plain old and GK make sure the gap is 034. But again you absolutely have to verify what jets are in your carburetor before we can get it figured out.

          Ok, that sounds good. Can I ask you, I’m thinking of just buying a big air kit. Any recommendations on which big air kit and jets work best for the 2000 road star? And would I have to ID the pipes if I wanted to do that?

        Just post a good side photo of your exhaust and someone will ID it.
