  • Stock carb jet kit

I am looking to purchase a jet kit for my 05R* and want to get a jet. Does anyone know what factory mikuni jet kit I should purchase?

  • #2
Depends on if you have stock intake filter and exhaust or some aftermarket items. Tell us what you got.

05 R* Supertrapp mean mothers with baffles, K&N intake.

I have an aftermarket jet kit, just want Mikuni jets for best jetting.

I'm at 170 main and 40 pilot. Pretty close, but Mikuni jets would be best.

I have an 07 with KN filter in stock air housing with two drilled holes on back, Freedom true duals with flow threw baffles.

        With a dynojet kit:
        175 main jet
        37.5 pilot jet (stock)
        1.25 turn out mix screw
3rd clip dynojet needle with spacer and washer under clip
stock float level with stock pump

Starts no problem and stable idle after a 30 secs to two minutes depending on how cool it is, enricher needed on cooler days for roughly same amount of warm up time.

More power in all ranges than stock stepup, with no hesitation or backfire on decel.

MPG varies from 38 to 48 depending on speed 65 to 50 mph and how much climbing/ downhill I do...Avg 43 mpg if i keep it around 60.

Gets about 32 mpg in city only riding.

Your mods and jetting are not even close to what his needs to be. Yours don't even sound like it is what you need in yours. I have never heard of anyone successfully use the clip in the 2nd groove with any brand jet kit. I'll bet if you pull your plugs they are white as hell from being lean. The Dynajet instructions don't call for the 2nd groove.

I wasn't trying to give him advice on his set up. These are what works for my setup and altitude. For a basic stock setup dynajet needle is way too rich unless you like getting 20 mpg. A lean carb would show more symptoms than simply white plugs. At that point, starting, mpg and heat would all be symptoms. I have none of these, so with all due respect, I'll keep my tuning.

I have been tuning bikes for 40 years and it's an art, more than simply follow the instructions on the box regardless of your set up.

Use Mikuni jets. You need a 172.5 main jet, 40 pilot jet, clip in the 4th groove with plastic spacer and 1 silver washer under the clip and set the PMS screw at 2 1/2 turns out and tweak it from there. The 2 1/2 turns out should be near perfect.

3H1-14142-40-00 - JET, PILOT (# 40) - From partzilla. I just got mine in the mail today. Haven't even got home yet to see it. I also ordered the wrong jet when I first ordered. Thank goodness it was only $10.

Need some assistance, 05 1700 supertrapp with baffles.

I am running a172.5 main jet, 40 pilot jet, clip in the 4th groove with plastic spacer and 1 silver washer under the clip and set the PMS screw at 3 1/2 turns out. .

I went to a spike air intake and now have a slight barely (1/16 throttle) off of idle.

            Rich or lean?

turning the screw "in" is leaner and "out" is richer on a stock carb. I have heard that tuning with that type of air cleaner is a bit difficult because you get a Ram Air effect. It progressively gets leaner with speed. I got that info from a member "Smokescreens" that had one and also have a AFR meter on his bike so he could see actual AFR while riding.
Also with your jetting 3 1/2 turns out on the pms is about 1 turn to many. it should be 2 1/2 turns out and maybe up to 2 3/4 - 3 turns out in colder weather

If you get rid of the dildo spike air intake and go to around K&N open element assembly or similar to that, run your PMS back into two and a half turns out lightly seated you will be fine.

From what I understand K&N is no longer selling to distributors are showing directly to the public. However when I check their website they weren't able to send me anything at that time. I talked to a buddy of mine that runs a speed shop and he can't get anything and told me that K & Nwants to sell directly to customers and cut out the middlemen. It's unfortunately the way of the internet now.

I got lucky and got one on eBay recently and have been stashing it. When I look over the past year you couldn't find any except for one that was in Australia and would have been like $200 to have it shipped over lol.You may want to contact K&N directly.

i have the ra066v and it has a 2.5" fitting. its slightly larger than the carb. this rc0850 is at 2.44". might be a tighter fit. been thinking of getting it.

I have the 067 on my 2008 fuel injected bike and it fits snug. I'm wondering if there is a slight difference in the diameter of a FI throttle body vs a carburetor. There might also be a different distance to the fuel tank from a throttle body vs a carburetor. I had to use a filter with the greatest offset throat. A centered throat hit my fuel tank.

center of carb opening to bottom of tank is roughly 2.5”. Might work.
