Spark plug cross thread

How’s everyone doing today
i noticed today while doing some maintance on my bike that one of the plugs wasn’t in all the way. When I tried to seat the plug I noticed a lot of resistance. I removed it instead and notice the plug was cross threaded does anyone know the thread size or know of a tool that can possibly repair it without throwing all the metal shavings into the motor? You will have to pull the head to do it right.

not really, it can be done with the head still on the bike

I think 14mm and get a sparkplug tap/thread chaser they make the tool that has a 2 sizes on the tool here it is on Amazon. grease the tool and it helps the shavings stick to the grease on not get into the cylinder. I have also reduced a small shop vac hose down to a drinking straw or vacuum hose size and vacuumed the cylinder thru the sparkplug hole before starting to make sure nothing is in there.

I think Davej is steering you right with putting grease on the threads before starting to tap. I would grease the cylinder head threads as well to catch anything that might fall in too. Then you can pull it out with some q-tips.

Go slow, a 1/4 turn at a time and clean it out as you go.

Yes my head was not thinking but you can also take the other plug out and stick your vacuum hose down there and bring it up to top dead center and that vacuum hose in the other plug hole she get all of the chips out.

You might want to invest in one of those fairly cheap wifi/bluetooth endoscopic cameras to look around in the bore when you're done to make sure no debris is left behind. Besides, they come in handy to have anyway. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
