Check and clean electrical connections with contact cleaner. Check your battery ground and power connectors make sure they're tight. How old is your battery and what size type is it?If it's more than 3 years old it may not be a bad idea to get a brand new correct battery. These fuel injected bikes seem very susceptible to voltage issues. Did you check your coils to make sure the connections are seated firmly on there? Sometimes they get a little loose and will cause issues.

Thanks Brad_G,I had thought about that as well because of the way it would be programmed into the ECU but it has done it when I was out riding a while back and something I have thought about for a day or so now is possibly it is developing a vapor lock in the fuel lines but if I am not able to figure it out I will let Allen at Cycle Service in Dothan Alabama get into it because he has more testing equipment than I do at home.

Hi,I just got my bike back from the shop yesterday and Alan the head mechanic there said that he had found some bad connections especially at the digital fuel processor,it's a cobra model# fi2000 and it was on it when I bought it and I was just wondering if you guys had any recommendations on what might be a better brand of these, thanks.

I'm the only one apparently that's had any type of success with an aftermarket fuel processor. And the only thing I'm using it for is to raise a rev limiter lol. The Cobra, the power commander, all of those things have an inherent issue apparently with the connectors. I bought and flipped a road liner recently that had a power commander on it and shortly after I got it it started running terrible on just one cylinder. After checking everything replacing spark plugs etc I ended up removing the power commander and low and behold the problem was solved. I don't know if it's the electronics or just the connectors. But I do know that my current roadstar has a power commander 5 on it and I only use it because of the rev limiter increased feature. If it ever develops an odd problem I will take it off. I would recommend cleaning the connectors with contact cleaner really well and then possibly using a little bit of dielectric grease as an insulation against moisture. But man it's well documented on the road liner/strataliner forums that these boxes can cause issues for sure.LET'S RIDE

I am so glad to know that I am not the only one that has found out this is a problem with this type of thing so anyone on here that can tell me how to do away with this I would greatly appreciate it because it was on the bike when I bought it from the woman I got it from, thanks.

Hello, back again,so Alan at Cycle Service had my road star for about three weeks and told me that he had tracked down a few loose connections but he didn't find anything else but a couple of days ago I was going to take a ride and it fired up like it should but then shut off like before but now I don't hear the fuel pump whining and it also made a clicking sound from around the injectors so back to square one,any help is apppreciated because even though I am usaully good with stuff like this I am at a loss, thanks.

Can anyone hear tell me where the crank position sensor is on these road stars, according to my cd manual it has one but that manual doesn't show exactly where and that's what I get for buying a cheap manual.

I'm not sure it's exactly a "cheap manual" issue. Most service manuals are geared towards service professionals that have more experience on whatever equipment is being sold. Forums like this and (some) YouTube is more friendly to the DIY crowd. Back to your question, If I'm not mistaken it's inside case on the left side of your bike. There is a wire that is fed "carefully" inside the clutch housing to not get into moving parts. Hopefully someone else sees this and can confirm. Or maybe with your manual it will be enough to properly locate it.

Hi,I am back again after having spent a few weeks in Germany and I have removed the fuel pump from my Road Star 1700 and was just wondering if the person on here that told me about a member on here having rebuilt one of these could give me a bit more information,it doesn't look like it would be too hard but I can't find any release tabs or anything that will get the thing apart, thanks for any help but I may wind up having to get a better one,Gary.

Standish3 I think this is the thread you are looking for. Roadstar_Rob is the poster who did this. He hasn't been seen here for a few months so probably not going to get him to chime in beyond what is in the thread.
I’m the original owner of this 2009 bike.. its got 10k miles on it. It’s been sitting mostly unused for past 2 years.. .I’d start it every few months and would always fire up.. Last fired up was in January of this year. Went out to fire it up and wouldn’t kick over.. Turns over just fine.. .Battery seems all good.. Getting
