Thank you very much Rob for the pics and info. I'm definitely interested in how this works out. I had no idea that you could disassemble the factory unit and replace the pump with an aftermarket unit. I just assumed you had to bite the bullet and pony up the big dollars for an OEM. I have an FI also so if this works i will just buy one at that price and have it on hand. Looking forward to how this works out. Cheers and good on you for trying to find an alternative.

Well… I didn’t want to be buzz killington but, I went to the Kesmo site and they say it’s Mfg in Japan and has a lifetime warranty. That and a endorsement of a member saying he has friends that have had good luck with Kesmo, for the price difference I will go with them.2012 Road Star Silverado S

I’ve gotten so much out of the forum happy to finally give a little something back.. Many on this thread helped on this as well. Agreed with the comments regarding the unit from Amazon but it was next day shipping so will have it tomorrow.. I will status once I get it all back together.. btw- unbelievable how much junk was inside the pump.. just nasty.. here are some additional pics of disassembly and before and after.. last pic is all the parts cleaned..

Pump motor came today.. Identical to stock… It comes with the fuel screen filter.. My filter had completely disintegrated…. So all that rust in my tank plus the particulate matter from the now dissolved screen is I suspect clogging my injectors.. I put the fuel pump back together and got it in the tank.. The system now pressurizes for a couple of seconds when the ignition is “on”. Got fuel pumping out when turning the key…. So mission accomplished on fixing the fuel pump for ~$35 vs. the $705 (tax/shipping) my local Yamaha dealer quoted..
Here are so more pics of the new pieces…. Now onto looking up how to service the injectors…

Thank you for being a pioneer. I also own a 09 fuelie. I have 20,000 miles on mine. I am not the original owner but I haven't had any issues with the bike. This is my first big bike, I am used to riding medium size cruisers and am old enough to remember a 750 as a "big" motorcycle. I am in the middle of learning to be gentler with the throttle and realizing that the bike is almost 6 times my weight.

UPDATE: I’ve attempted to clean out the tank as best I can but I’m still getting a lot of particles floating and caught in the pump filter.. additionally the original pump gasket was leaking so had to order one…. With the delay while waiting for the gasket decided to take the tank to a small shop who has a process to thoroughly clean out the tank. Stated has a chemical clean and pressure wash process to get the tank like new again.. He also has a process to clean the injectors which I am fairly confident are plugged… I am supposed to get the tank/injectors back by April 1st.. will report back when I get it all back together and running…

UPDATE: Finally got the tank back and bike back together.. I had attempted to clean the tank myself but after several attempts and it still looking pretty bad i took it to a local shop and had the tank chemically treated… Picked it up and it was 9/10 like new inside… they also tested/cleaned the injectors but told me they were basically fine before they started… I had to order a new pump gasket which also caused some delay as I had a very minor fuel leak when I had put everything back together the first time…. IF you do replace your fuel pump motor per this thread go ahead and order the pump gasket.. It was a $5 part that caused another 2 week delay…. I am happy to report the bike fired right up and is running fine. I took it out for an hour or so today and all good.. It’s been a long journey having to wait for both the tank cleaning and then pump gasket. I did learn a bunch and am not as intimated as I initially was in thinking about taking out the injectors, etc. I don’t know what to expect from the Amazon $35 pump motor I ordered.. In hindsight if I’d had known I’d be waiting this long I would have ordered the nicer unit vs. amazon next day one I got.. but its in there now and we’ll see how long it lasts.. Hit me up in any questions on any of this. . Happy to share what I’ve learned along the way.

My guess is that the pump you purchased is of the same quality Chinese or Japanese of the OEM or any other aftermarket pump available. Lets just say that the oem pump didn't last forever so how good was it? I think you will be just fine. More expensive sometimes just means more expensive and not higher quality.
