  • Starting the re-jetting journey at the exhaust

    2007 Yamaha Roadstar Silverado

I was told when I bought this bike that the aftermarket exhaust system was Vance & Hines Boomers. I come to find out that there isn't and never was such an animal. I'm posting a picture to see if anyone recognizes them, and could maybe point me in the direction of enough technical info to see if I need to re-jet.

My problem is that, in the summer here in Arizona, the choke is all the way out or it dies for about the first mile or so. Then it settles down for the rest of the trip all the way in. It's like all or nothing with the choke. I'm thinking that the difference in altitude and atmosphere has caused this. I could easily be wrong.

    Anyway, the pipes:

not sure what the pipes are but it don't matter the brand to correctly jet the bike. I can't tell from the pic if you still have the oem airbox and filter.

Look like hard Krome... If you have stock airbix without holes drilled in it you more thanimely should not need to rejet. Problem is.... Since your not the original owner you really need to pull the carb and verify the jets and needle. No telling what someone else did before you got it....

I'll grab a picture of the airbox, unless I have to disassemble it to find out. I think it is stock, however.

Having the choke out until it warms up is typical. That's what it's for.

Someone will be along soon to let you know it's not a CHOKE, it's an ENRICHER. Perhaps even explain why. But, yea, I live in AZ too, and I have to do the same thing. They are just cold-natured beasts. I'm right at 3000 foot elevation here in Kearny. Where are you?

Mid-Town Phoenix 1,125 ft more or less.

I figured it was an enricher, as it was on my last bike. V-Twin technology doesn't fall too far from the tree.

Stock air box but ladies shoes! You'll have to open up the box to see if it has a stock filter or k/n inside.
