  • Position of PMS screw

    Hi,

I am searching the PMS-screw at my carburetor (Roadstar XV1700 (AMT from 2005)).
See the red arrows in the pictures, should it be there?

By the way, my bike is running awfull and turns off at every traffic-light ...

your PMS is still capped off from the factory. It is under the brass plug in the tall tower next to your arrow. you have to drill a small hole it the brass cap the screw a sheet metal screw into the hole and remove the plug by pulling on the screw.

I understand: the blue arrow is the position of the PMS screw. What is the red? Is a screw missing there?

And: is it possible to adjust the PMS screw without removing the carb?

... and another question: does the screw from Baron (https://www.baronscustom.com/catalog...503/index.html) fit into the hole?

you have to pull the carb to remove the brass cap then you can get a small screwdriver in there to adjust without removing the carb. Years ago I remember it was said that the other threaded hole had something to do with assembly on the assembly line. Don't know if that is true but nothing goes into that hole so maybe that is why it is there.
The Barons extended screw you posted will make things real easy for adjusting. There is a spring under the PMS screw make sure you don't lose it and reinstall with the new Barons screw. The spring puts pressure on the screw to keep it from loosening up and falling out

How many times has the pilot screw to be turned:
            2 1/2 or 3 1/2 ?

I have read both in the web for the Roadstar (mine is from 2005, XV1700 AMT)

Is it necessary to reinstall the brass cap after adjusting the pilot screw?

throw the brass cap away. How many turns out will depend on what pilot jet you have in the carb. If you have the OEM #35 pilot it will be around 3 1/2 turns out. If you have rejetted and installed the #40 pilot jet it will be 2 1/2 turns out but that is a starting point on both that may be fine or may need to be tweeked just a little to get the best idle.
