    07 Road* Silverado 1700
    6k miles
    Completely stock

I'm definitely not a mechanic so if I say some dumb stuff please excuse!

New fuel filter and air filter.
Currently the bikes idle is in the 950-1000 range.
It seems to run ok but I kinda feel like it should have more power but this is the only Road* I've owned/rode so I don't really have anything to compare it with!!

The Issues I'm having are that there's a slight smell of fuel not super bad but definitely noticeable and occasionally when go to roll the throttle (Not blip) it'll backfire through the Carb and seem like it almost wants to stall out but then it picks right back up and is fine!

*The other problem is after warming and riding for a little, when I kill the engine it coughs and acts like it's trying to stay running then it sounds as if it's spinning the starter or reversing the spin of the engine! Not sure if I'm describing it right but I just wna be a detailed as possible!

just recently replaced my stock carb due to a few issues with parts that couldn't be replaced on the carb!
The replacement was off another 1700 that had a stock air intake but aftermarket exhaust with approximately 19k miles on it! I was told it had been jetted accordingly!

•After receiving the carb I went though it and set all the jets back to stock except for the needle which was an aftermarket type (Not sure of the brand, will post pics when I open it back up if needed) after comparing it with the stock needle it was setup in exactly the same position, so I left it in the carb! Not sure why but I did!

The knowledgeable people will chime in shortly. For a little more power some after market better flowing exhaust and a better flowing air cleaner which will require re-jetting the carb and probably using that different needle. Post a pic of that needle and they can tell you exactly which one it is. from Sweet Home, Oregon
It's not that life is so short, it's just that you're dead for so long.---unknown.

Yes sir, those are my next steps! I'm currently looking for a decent set of used aftermarket pipes!
unfortunately the needle is currently installed in the carb that's on my bike! I knew I should've taken pics!!

If you put the stock main jet back in it with an aftermarket needle you are way to rich on the main jet. The taper and diameter of the aftermarket needle is different. If you are gonna leave everything stock I can send you a stock needle to put back in it then the stock jets will be correct.

DaveJ , I honestly really don't know why I left they aftermarket needle in!! I was thinking more about the clip position and completely disregarded the tapering of the needle!
I have a stock needle and I'm going to try and put that back in tonight or Monday at the latest!!
Thank you for the offer though!

EP, You ain't lying!! Everytime I click on this site I get some Good info!!!
            Thanks!!!

One thing I would suggest if you are going back to stock jets is replace the pilot jet with a DJ #37. As you may or may not know the factory jetting is lean on the idle circuit to meet emissions requirement. You can try turning out the PMS more (don't go more than 3 turns out), but that may not be enough to eliminate sluggish feel off idle and decel back firing. The reason I suggested the DJ #37 is it flows more fuel than the stock Mikuni PJ #35, but less than a Mikuni #37. If you going to open up exhaust and add better intake, the Mikuni #37 or 40 may be better. But with the stock setup and the PMS turned out about 2-1/2 to 2-3/4, bike runs much better than stock.
I did this before selling bike after putting it back to stock.

......then it sounds as if it's spinning the starter or reversing the spin of the engine!
                Are you hearing the ‘zing’?

The starter is geared through a one way ‘sprag’ clutch. Nine times out of ten when the engine is shut off it will ‘bounce off’ a compression stroke and turn the crankshaft backwards which will engage that sprag clutch and it will spin the starter for a moment. Hurts nothing. Just a quirk their starter gear train setup exhibits.
