    Good morning everyone.

    Still putting together some stuff on my new '06 R*. Have the carb apart to see what the previous owner may have done for the Hypercharger, which is getting replaced with either the KN 066 or 1980. Here's what I found:

    Needle with plastic spacer and 1 washer under 4th clip (out of 6) but no marking on needle itself.

    Main shows 200, no other markings

    Pilot has no markings at all

    Float jet is 2.0, as is the Pilot Air jet under the diaphragm.

    Any way to ID the needle? I have seen the recommendations for jetting a 1700, which I plan to follow, bit would rather not spend $60 for the Baron kit if someone can positively ID this needle.

    Just found this from Davej.

    Mine measures 2.92 Big end, 1.53 at point, 62.81 long. Hong to say with tolerances on my cheap digital caliper that's closest to the Dynojet.

    So, I should be able to use that with a 172.5 main and 40 pilot, both Mikuni. Correct?

      According to the chart it should jet like a dynojet kit. The 172.5 and 40 should get you real close. maybe even try that jetting without a washer under the clip, that will put you at about 3 1/2 on the groove setting. just like a dynojet setting with those jets. Also check the airjets to make sure they haven't been changed. Usually they are changed when a Hypercharger is installed. The one under the black plastic top is the one that gets changed to a 1.5 , It should be a 2.0

        Thanks, I'll give that a shot. Also, the air jet is 2.0 still so good there.

        That should still be at 2.5 turns oyt on mix screw, yes?

          Yep that is a good place to start. Most of the time that is gonna be good but tweak it from there after warming up to see if that is where it needs to be with that jetting.

            Finally got the jets on from the local shop, felt like it took forever. Anyway, new plugs, KN filter, and settings from above and everything fired right up and sounds great. Weather wasn't good enough to go for a test ride, but its a good start. I did have it stall once - warmed with choke off and 'snapping' or blipping the throttle, otherwise seems to hesitate a bit. May have to check the accelerator pump, didn't look like it was keeping up (slow/dirty spring?) But after I can get a couple rides in.

            Otherwise, I noticed that the front plugs had been replaced by the PO, but not rear. Seems odd to me. Makes me wonder if there was an air leak somewhere, hopefully that's been fixed with the manifold porting/resurfacing. Something to watch for I guess.
            Plugs are shown anti-clockwise from left rear.

              Those rear plugs don’t look horrible. Maybe just a tad rich, but a driveway warm up won’t give you a decent plug read. Need to get it up to temp and get a few miles on it. Dave has you where you need to be. Judging from the 200 main, it was a dynojet kit. I’m running the dynojet needle in my 1600 with a 170 main, 4th groove, no added shim and a 37.5 pilot. Runs great, and plugs look great.


              Wherever you go in life, ride there if at all possible.

                Thanks for the extra info.

                To clarify, those were the plugs with the old jetting. The bike seemed to be running fine, I just wanted to get rid of the hypercharger and make sure everything was as it should be. I'll check up with another plug read after a couple of good long rides.
