  • Question for those who have built a roadstar bobber

So to start this off, ive been building my road star into a bobber and have been stripping off what i dont need. ie: fuel pump, speedometer, factory ignition switch. So i have rewired in a new ignition switch "3 post" 2 position. New drag specialties speedometer and went pumpless with a aftermarket tank. This is kind of hard to explain but hopefully someone has some answers.

I've been having some issues with the neutral switch and CEL (check engine light) wiring. To my understanding they need to be connected in line in order for the relay to close/ complete circuit to start the bike. So i basically spliced them back off the same power wire running to the speedometer and bypassed the 2 lights off the speedo. So after doing this when i switch power on to the bike the signal light fuse (10 amp [#55 on wiring diagram]) keeps blowing. Do i need to put a light or resistor in place of the factory dash light? I pulled power from the CEL wiring and just had power to the neutral swtich and it didnt seem to blow but when I put the bike into gear (engine off) it blew the fuse again. Really not sure how to proceed and wondering what others have done when building their bobbers.

I am fairly new to reading these diagrams but trying my best. Kind of confused on what I should do next.

    I attached the wiring diagrams

It would probably be better for you to just set up a simple wiring harness and do away with the stock harness all together..........it is a bobber afterall....
not all those who wander are lost......

The problem is that you cannot see what is inside the ignition module without destroying it and it has many functions other that ignition. It has about 17 wires going into it.

You only need the red and brown wire to go to the ignition switch.

ALSO...... The other two ignition wires one light blue with white stripe and the other wire medium blue have to be connected together for the bike to work correctly.
Otherwise the bike will just quit when you try to let out the clutch.

Ok ya i ran into that issue, everything works but no spark. I'll try to wire those two wires together.

Lucky, is that what you have done for your bike?

      Yes.
The color wiring diagram in the back of the Clymers workshop manual is your best source.
