  • Caltric stators any good?

Does anyone have any experience with these stators? I know the old adage you get what you pay for, but being retired on a fixed income I don't have a lot of expendable cash, and would like to hear from anyone that has installed one of these. If they are really no good, then I will pony up the funds for a better one, but thought I would ask here first!

    Thanks in advance.

LMAO, You answered yourself already. Some have got lucky with Ricks some not, Yamaha part recommended for those on a fixed income as it will be done only once.

Just curious, but how do you know it's the stator and not the rectifier? The later are known for going bad.

I tested it at the end of the season last year with a multi meter. I did all the tests found here: https://wayback.archive-it.org/10073...t/view/18/103/ which led to me to believe it was the stator

Good deal. Just checking. Sometimes you can get lost down a rabbit hole when someone can show you the shortcut... We've all been there... Carry on.

What about used? It's pretty rare that they fail:

Hadn't considered used. That is a good idea, thanks! Like Smokescreens said, would I need to get the newer rectifier to go with it to balance it?

on the old forum i remember a lot of complaints on non oem stators and starter relays. but if i was doing it i would go with a 2005 and up one with the 05 up rectifier to get the better charge rate

Hopefully the rectifiers aren't on backorder anymore. I had a heck of a time getting an OEM one this summer. Luckily a member here had a new one stashed away.

LOL & I haven't been able to replace the one I sold you. I'll never do that again for anyone

Replace both stator and rectifier at same time .....OEM Yamaha....then ride for another 50k-80k miles and not worry about it. For most people it would be a one time expense for the whole time they owned their bike (unless the kept fucking with a bad battery, had bad wiring/connections, bunch of aftermarket junk shit drawing waaaaaay too much power, etc).

Doc, I noticed the warrior stator in the link you provided has a different plug on the end of the pigtail, can you still use this stator and just swap the plug?

There should have been a whole list of stators, I chose the 1700s is they have a better charging system, but it looks like you'd have to replace the rectifier too. Just get one from a 1600, do the stator only, and you should be good to go. Here, try this link. If it doesn't work, just search for "*used* xv1600 Stators" on eBay.

I'm 66 and my experience with used parts is don't do it with non rebuild able parts you can't fix on your own. Your looking at false savings, waste of your time, energy and dollars, are the parts your getting on e bay OEM ? You can't be sure until it is in your hand. Check with Rock River Powersports online they are the owners of this site for a member price.

Nice score! Congrats. You'll probably need to replace the rectifier too, since that's for a 1700 and you have a 1600.

Are you looking at the right ad, Doc? The ad I posted says "Brand new OEM Yamaha part, fits all 2002-2006 Roadstar 1700" Part number comes out as 1600 Road Star
