  • Turn signal wiring help?

    Due to some paperwork snafu I now need to have my bike inspected by the CHP. This thing is completely custom, COMPLETELY custom minus the 2005 xv1700 powerplant and wiring harness, etc. so i'm praying, fingers-crossed that if I do the right legal things some kind hearted inspector will pass me.

    SO. I need to hook up some front turn signals. I have some aftermarket LED ones. Could someone guide me with which wires are which? each has a power and ground (black/red) coming out. I haven't really found a very very clear color coded wiring diagram online and wiring is not my forte.

    Brown wire is ​​​​​​+ Left, Dark Green is + Right. Black is ground.
    LEDs, red +, black -.
    With LEDs, your flashers will run faster unless you run a resistor on both lights.
    If your LEDs only has 2 wires, then you won't have running, "park", lights.

      Keep in mind some jurisdictions require left & right signal lights to be a certain distance apart from each other.

        Yep just read that it's 9" in CA. I think I can make that work.

          you will need 25watt 8.8 ohm or similar resistor between the live (12v) and ground to make LED flasher work at correct speed
          Sometimes it takes a whole tank of gas before i can think straight

          I've seen pictures of your bike in another thread.. it's awesome.. sorry to hear about the CHP snafu.. Did you end up getting the turn signals installed?

              NOOO. I don't know what happened. Had my rear signals working perfectly fine yesterday. Now after packing some wiring back in my Neutral light doesn't work, my rear brake light seems to be stuck ON, and my signals don't work. I"m supposed to get this thing checked out in 30 minutes. I'm screwed....

                Good news. I passed. Bad news my forward left control snapped off. But at least I now have a non-operable CA legal bike!

                    Yep that's the one. Made too sharp of a turn to avoid an oncoming car who didn't feel like letting me make a left turn at a 4 way stop. Clipped the the ground and the whole control/pedal broke off the frame. Thankfully it was low speed and half a block from where I needed to be. Getting rewelded at the shop right now
