I was wondering if anybody has a diagram or a detailed explanation to what's going on inside the CDI unit? Like if the blue wire is connected to ground it will put -12V on the yellow/black (this is just to explain, have no idea if it's like that in real life? ) Or just a diagram over the inside of the unit?

I was afraid it was the case

The year of your bike is a secret also?

Are you trying to troubleshoot and resolve an issue with your bike..??
in essence… the ECU (engine control unit) fires the plugs by providing a ground to the coils of the associated spark plugs when the engine pistons are in the proper position on the compression stroke to fire with the proper timing…. That is a simplified explanation for your model year ECU…

it is an analog electronic circuit that reads the status of crankshaft position sensor and fires the coils at the proper time to allow the engine to run…

that is about as simple a description that can be given…

I do understand what it does, but I'm curious of how it does it? Some of it I can read from the overall diagram for the bike, like the cutoff relay sends a negative to the blue wire in the 4pin connector, which allows the ECU to send a negative to the ignition coils. But I am curious of for example how the output for the decompression coil is controlled? You know, what does each pin do and how? Do I make sense?

I would suspect that the ECU is using transistors and/or SCR’s to switch circuits On/Off based on hard wired transistor logic… if your asking for a circuit diagram… not sure anyone can help you with that… i would bet that Yamaha has called it a proprietary circuit and will not release the actual circuit diagram…
you can pretty much trace the wiring from the different sensors to determine if the required signal is active high or active low when troubleshooting an issue with your bike…
if your trying to reverse engineer the ECU… well…
good luck with that… that would be a task that would require excessive amounts of labor hours for such a small reward… i have included the circuit wiring which is referenced in the service manual for a 1600 roadstar… it is an invaluable aid for tracing electical problems for someone with experience reading a volt/ohm meter…

Thank you I already have and use the diagram frequently. Building a chop, so I pretty much scrapped the entire wiring and made a new. But for troubleshooting it would be nice to know what exactly goes on in there Maybe I should take the time and make a walkthrough for each pin?
