All systems go besides turn signals

Getting the harness wrapped up and during my first test all things are a go other than my darn turn signals. They are off when the switch is not engaged which is how I had them set up but when i engage left or right the correct signals illuminate but are solid and not blinking. Relay?

The original roadstar wiring uses a flasher relay…. It requires a current draw from the incandescent lights to allow the flashing function…. Most likely an internal resistance of the flasher heats an element for a ‘mechanical’ type flashing function…. This is why you have to add a resistor to allow the flashing function to work with an led type light….
since you have modified/customized your bike…. It is anybodies guess what you did with your wiring and flasher….
since the bulbs light up, we know that you have power to the blinker bulbs…. Where you obtained the power…. Only you would know…

I cannot fathom how anybody could help with so little information on your wiring modifications presented….. if you would elaborate or provide an electrical sketch…. You may just provide enough information to help you out….

My wiring has not "changed" from stock other than shortening or lengthening or straight up deleting sections I am no longer using. As far as the turn signals nothing has changed. I have been using these led lights for years without issue. I have a new relay coming and will report my findings. Sorry for the lack of information. Electrical is not my strong suit.

The flasher relay has to have a certain amount of resistance to flash correctly. Usually the LEDs cause the turn signal to hyperflash, sort of like the hyperflash you will see if you loose a filament inside of one of the lamps. I have never replaced all my turn signal lamps to LED so I don't know if the just stay lit and not blink. I install a resistor on my LEDs and they work normal.

If the relay alone doesn't set me straight I will try the resistor. Thanks guys! Can I ask what resistor you went with?

I went to eBay and searched for a LED load resistor. I installed the Load Resistor 50W 6RJ 6ohm . The resistors are installed "parrallel" to the LED (shunted) or in other words hook one wire from the resistor to the hot side of the LED and the other wire from the resistor to the ground side of the LED. I found a YouTube video.

Now that we know that the wiring is basically the same….
mr miyagi is correct in the load resistor in parellel with the bulb…. Flasher sees the proper load resistance which allows more current from the flasher circuit…. Flasher activates correctly….

12 volt into 6 ohms is 2 amps….(rough idea of calculation since i do not know your LED resistance)…

power equals voltage x resistance so the circuit draws 24 watts of power… mr miyagi has a 50 watt resistor at 6 ohms…. Plenty of room for error…

Thanks a bunch guys. Still very odd that if this is the issue that it all of a sudden started happening after 7 plus years as that is how long I've been running these LEDs.... I rather this be the issue then something else though! lol
