Hi Forum,
Newbie here with a 2005 Roadstar XV1600A based in Thailand, Asia.
I have owned my bike almost 15 years and it has been very reliable.
Recently I have had to start parking it outside and we are in the middle of the rainy season here, which I suspect has brought the electrical gremlins out, and caused my kill switch to fail most of the time.
As an interim measure I left it taped in the “on” position and I am just using the ignition to start/stop the bike. I prefer using the kill switch and would like to repair it if possible.
Since this was a grey import, there is no local support nor parts available. My RHS cluster has the hazard light slider switch in the middle. I have been unable to locate this style on eBay or any of the US breaker sites so far.
Are these switches serviceable, or could I take the switch part from a similar cluster and transplant it to my existing one?
I have some background in electronic engineering and know my way around a soldering iron, but I am not a bike mechanic, so please any help given should not assume prior knowledge on my part!
I do have a service manual, but all I could find regarding the kill switch was the cryptic advice to replace it, if found not to be working…
For example, I guess I just undo the two top hex bolts at the back of the RHS switch cluster, and the cluster will come apart in half? Do I need to disconnect the throttle cables as well before accessing the kill switch?
Many thanks in advance for any help.
Eduardo
